KAPP meeting in August 2024

Good Morning everybody.

During the COVID pandemic, I used to write regular updates on covid and different ways to protect from that disease and a lot of my friends were happy and believe that they got necessary working knowledge from those write ups. Some of my friends are regularly sending me messages that I should again start writing on important topics.

I thought about it and I decided to write some short pieces for our community in Kashmir. These pieces will be based on pure and hard science and may be sometimes difficult to understand. But none the less, I will try my level best to write these in easily comprehensible paragraphs.
The most fascinating subject in medicine that has deeply influenced my thought and my understanding are Body's Immune System or in short Immunology , Body's hormone system , called as Endocrinology and most importantly Body' s Central Nervous system. These systems are so complicated, yet so interesting. They give you an insight into , how bodies are made up of and how they work in such a synchronized way. If anything goes wrong, our bodies suffer a lot. A lot of diseases occur and many of them can lead to death. These phenomena also make us think that there is a creator behind this complicated yet carefully synchronised human body . A lot of my understanding of religion has happened because of understanding of science and I realise that the two are not different but closely linked. In my subsequent write ups , I will try to make references for some religious practices in different religions and how they completely align with our body's working formulas. So stay tuned and wait for my series, Inshallah.

Covid 19 Vaccine is Already there.

Good morning and greetings of the day.

People are anxiously waiting for a covid 19 vaccine. Russian vaccine launched last month has not yet undergone phase 3 clinical trials and is therefore only an experimental vaccine, not a real approved vaccine. Oxford vaccine that had the highest chances of being available to people have faced a road block , albeit a temporary one. One of the patients has developed a crippling Transverse myelitis, a known complication of many vaccines.
There are lot more vaccines in different phases and atleast 6 more in phase 3 and can hit the market during 2020 anytime.

However there is another great great and great news. I am sure, you all will be happy and you all will feel relaxed..

Yes, they say the vaccine is already there in the field, already being used by people..

And it has wonderful results..

May be, you have got it already and you do not know it.!

Yes.. any guess.?

Wait, let me explain!

In virology, we have a term called inoculum size.. that means, when you get an infection from some one, what is the dose of viruses you get?. If you get a bigger dose, you develop severe symptoms and may be ARDS, and even death. But if you get a smaller dose, your body will slowly develop antibodies and you either do not develop the disease at all or else you develop mild symptoms.
There is another term called LD50... it means the Lethal dose for 50 % of population. Or say in experimental animals, when you give them a dose of virus for experimentation. The viral dose by which 50% of your experimental animals will die is called LD50.

Two researcher from CDC, USA have written a research paper that was published in New England Journal of Medicine on 6th September. My entire post is based on that research paper. These authors have said that a research done on animals have showed that those animals who were masked developed asymptomatic disease or mild symptoms. Similar research in an Argentinan ship has shown that 80% of the people on that ship who were all masked developed asymtomatic infection, as compared to only 20% of patients developed asymptomatic disease in the US ship at the beginning of the pandemic. It has also been seen that those countries that have used mass masking, have feared well as compared to those who did not use mass masking. More patients have developed asymptomatic disease and very very less death rates.

How it works.. As you by now must have understood that , once you wear a mask, it blocks the massive dose of viruses going inside your nose and lungs, but few viral particles here and there do find their entry inside your body and that acts as a vaccine and the person develops immunity.
This concept has been seen in Muncipal hospitals of Boston, tmwhere health care staff, who wear masks have developed antibodies but were never symptomatic. It means, that had been asymptomatic but got immunity now. It is like you need a glass of water but you see flood outside. Corona virus is every where and if you go out and get exposed, you will get exposed to flood. If you wear mask, you get only that much of viral dose, that is required for developing immunity.
It has been seen after collecting data from different communities that 80% of covid 19 infection is now asymptomatic and death rate has considerably gone down. This has happened only because of using mask.

So my dear friends, do not forget your mask and you can start living your life , the way you used to live previously. But yes, then everybody or most of the people must wear a mask. Do not go near to an unmasked person.
