The Department of Botany, University of Kashmir delighted to announce the successful registration of an industrial design titled "Portable Trichoderma Device for Crop Protection" with the Patent Office, Government of India (Design Registration No. 491090-001).

This achievement reflects the Department's continued commitment to innovation, sustainable agriculture, and translational research. The registered design has been developed by:

The Department of Botany, University of Kashmir, extends its warm congratulations to Dr. Faizan Shafee on the successful completion of his Ph.D. in Botany under the supervision of Prof. Manzoor A. Shah and Prof. Anzar A. Khuroo.

His doctoral thesis, entitled “Monitoring Plant Phenology in Relation to Functional Traits and Microclimate in Kashmir Himalaya,” contributes to understanding the responses of Himalayan plant species to fine-scale microclimatic variation under climate change.

During his doctoral research, Dr. Faizan presented his work in different forums across India and at international academic platforms in Germany. His research has been published in prestigious journals like Global Ecology and Biogeography

Dr. Faizan is also a member of the global PhenObs Network, where he represents India. This network promotes collaborative research on climate-change impacts on the phenology of plants .

The Department acknowledges the dedicated guidance of his supervisors and wishes Dr. Faizan Shafee continued success in his future academic and research endeavours.

Centre for Biodiversity & Taxonomy, Department of Botany, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, successfully organized a One-Day Training Programme for Researchers on “Plant Taxonomy”on 17th June 2026. The programme was sponsored by the **Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) under its Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) initiative.

The training witnessed enthusiastic participation from research scholars representing various universities and institutions. The programme featured a series of lectures covering key aspects of plant taxonomy, including **“Taxonomy: The Basic Language of Biology and Beyond,” “Taxonomic Characters: Vegetative and Reproductive,”and “Basics of Botanical Nomenclature.”

The theoretical sessions were followed by practical hands-on training on Field Taxonomy and Herbarium Techniques, as well as Field Photography and Microscopy, providing participants with valuable exposure to modern taxonomic tools and methodologies.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session held in the presence of Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Wani, Head, Department of Botany, who appreciated the efforts of the organizers and emphasized the importance of taxonomic research in biodiversity conservation and sustainable biological sciences.

The Department extends its gratitude to ANRF for supporting this initiative and to all participants for their active engagement, which contributed to the success of the programme.

The Department of Botany, University of Kashmir, through its Centre for Biodiversity and Taxonomy (CBT), organized a two-day Training-cum-Workshop on “Recent Advances in Plant Taxonomy” from 15–16 June, 2026. The programme was sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) under the Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) initiative.

The workshop commenced with a welcome address and overview of the programme by Prof. Anzar Ahmad Khuroo, Organizing Secretary, who highlighted the importance of contemporary approaches and emerging developments in plant taxonomy and biodiversity research.

The inaugural session was graced by Prof. G. H. Dar, Former Head, Department of Botany, University of Kashmir, as Special Guest; Prof. Sajad Ahmad Gangoo, Dean Students Welfare, SKUAST-Kashmir, as Guest of Honour; and Prof. Bashir Ahmad Ganai, Dean Research, University of Kashmir, who delivered the Chief Guest address.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhisthan Bill, 2025 visited the Kashmir University Botanical Garden (KUBG), Department of Botany, University of Kashmir on 05 June 2026. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the Botanical Garden's contributions towards plant conservation, scientific research, and sustainable development.

A distinguished academician and researcher, Prof. Singh has been serving the University with dedication in various capacities and is presently coordinating the JK State Eligibility Test (JK-SET). Her contributions to teaching, research, and academic administration have been widely appreciated.

Students from Cambridge International School (CIS) visited the internationally recognised KASH-Herbarium and the Kashmir University Botanical Garden today. Demonstration sessions were conducted for the visiting students on the role of herbariums and botanical gardens in the conservation of biodiversity and in addressing climate change.

During their visit to different sections of the Botanical Garden, the students gained valuable information about the importance of local flora, especially medicinal and aromatic plants.
