Central Martam GSS, Gyalshing Sikkim Established in 1976,The State Government took over the charge in the year 1982. Then in 2019, the school was made as a Secondary School. The school saw Sri.

Soon after in the year 1985, the school had its first upgrade as a Junior High School. Established in 1976, Government Secondary School, Central Martam has been a phenomenal entity for providing education in the areas surrounding Martam and Bermiok. Engulfed by a small village in Arithang Daragaon, West Sikkim, it sits in a close perimeter of the Hee-Martam Block Administrative Centre. The school

was operated by a few members of a local committee till 1981. The State Government then took over the charge and transformed it into a government institution in the year 1982. Dil Kumar Rai as the first Headmaster. The school infrastructure has two buildings dedicated for classrooms and office. There is also a library, football ground, volleyball court, badminton court and a small park for younger children. This school has always been supportive to the children for making them competent in all the activities, be it social, cultural or science, arts and technology! Government also provides free education to the lower class children with free books, school bags, raincoats, school dresses, shoes and mid-day meal.

🧘‍♀️ International Day of Yoga 2026 🧘‍♂️

On 21st June 2026, the school proudly joined the world's largest Yoga movement, celebrating International Day of Yoga with this year's theme — "Yoga for Healthy Ageing."

Students, teachers, and staff came together for an energizing session filled with asanas, pranayama, and meditation, embracing the message of holistic well-being for all ages. The event was a wonderful reminder of how yoga unites mind, body, and spirit — and brings communities together.

The school also registered the event through the Ministry of Ayush's Yoga Sangam portal, contributing to this nationwide movement.

Day 2 of the Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp (BBSC) 2026 was conducted at Central Martam GSS, Gyalshing Sikkim
Students were shown a video of vegetable vendors selling produce in Sanskrit, through which names of common fruits and vegetables were taught. A shloka was recited along with its meaning.
Under Indian Sign Language (ISL), a video demonstrating numbers in sign language was shown, followed by an activity in which students expressed their roll numbers using signs while classmates guessed the number.

Day 1 of the Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp (BBSC) 2026,
Students were introduced to Sanskrit through basic greetings, the Devanagari script, numbers, and self-introduction role-play conducted by teachers. The session also included an introduction to Indian Sign Language (ISL) using PM e-Vidya resources.
The Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp is being conducted in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, under the theme "Learn One More Bharatiya Bhasha."

🏫 Parents / Guardian – Teachers Meet 2026
Government Secondary School, Central Martam

The Parents / Guardian – Teachers Meet 2026 was successfully held on 10th April 2026 at GSS Central Martam, with a participation of 100+ parents and guardians along with the school staff.

The meeting provided a meaningful platform for open dialogue between the school and the parent community. Parents actively raised valuable concerns and suggestions, which were addressed transparently by the school administration and the Headmaster.

Key highlights included discussions on school infrastructure, skill-based learning, NEP-2020 reforms, the upcoming Golden Jubilee (50th Anniversary) of our school, and the importance of the three-way partnership between students, teachers, and parents for holistic education.

As part of the Year-Long Month-Wise Activity Calendar observing the 150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram, student expressed their love for the motherland through art this March.

The activity was conducted as a free, non-competitive creative exercise, and the completed posters now adorn our classroom walls — a vibrant reminder of the pride and patriotism that Vande Mataram has carried for 150 years.

As part of the Year-Long Month-Wise Activity Calendar observing the 150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram, conducted meaningful activities that brought this historic occasion to life for our students.

Students from Classes VI to X participated in a Human Timeline Performance, tracing the journey of Vande Mataram from its composition by Shri Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1876 to its enduring significance in independent India. Each student represented a key moment in history, narrating their chapter with confidence and pride before the school community.

In addition, students were encouraged to register and participate in the National Quiz on Vande Mataram hosted on the MyGov portal, engaging with this national initiative and deepening their understanding of the song's historical and constitutional significance.

These activities were conducted in the spirit of the Government of India's call to commemorate this landmark anniversary and to instil among the younger generation a sense of pride, patriotism, and connection with India's rich cultural heritage.

The School organised the Farewell-cum Annual Day Programme on 15 December 2025 at the school premises. The programme was conducted to mark the retirement farewell of a non-teaching staff member, the farewell of transferred staff, and the recognition of students' academic and co-curricular achievements as part of the Annual Day celebration.
The programme was attended by members of the School Management and Development Committee (SMDC), representatives from the Panchayat and Zilla, along with teachers, staff, students, and members of the school community.
The programme commenced with formal proceedings, including the reception of guests and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The school report highlighting academic progress, institutional initiatives, and student achievements was presented. The retirement and transfer farewell ceremonies were conducted as a mark of appreciation for the dedicated service rendered by the staff to the institution.
As part of the Annual Day celebration, students were recognised for their outstanding performance in academic and co-curricular activities. Cultural presentations and prize distribution were organised to encourage and motivate students.
The programme concluded with active participation from the school community, reflecting the collective efforts of the institution.

A programme on the National Gender Equality Campaign was organised on 13th December 2025 at Central Martam Government Secondary School by SRLM, Hee Martam Block. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about gender equality, mutual respect, and equal opportunities in society.

Students, teaching staff, and the Headmaster were present during the programme. The resource persons from SRLM addressed the gathering and explained the importance of gender equality in education, family life, and the workplace. The session focused on promoting respect, fairness, and the need to break gender-based stereotypes.

Students actively participated in the discussion, shared their thoughts, and asked questions, which made the programme engaging and effective. The initiative was appreciated by the school authorities for its relevance and positive impact on students.

The programme concluded with a strong message encouraging students to uphold the values of gender equality in their daily lives and contribute towards building an inclusive and balanced society.
