Khasi Film Awards The Khasi Film Awards has been conceptualized as an annual event to honour and recognize film making in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya.

The awards is governed by the KFAOC a division of Society for Performing Arts Development(SPADE) and managed by Events&Outdoors Incorporated

The Khasi Films & Music Welfare Association (KFMWA) invites all stakeholders of the Khasi Film Industry which includes Producers, Directors, Artists, Distributors, Promoters & all well-wishers of Khasi Films (Khynriam-Pnar-Bhoi-War) to the General Meeting of KFMWA to be held on 20th March 2014 at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall, Mawkhar at 1pm. The main agendas to be discussed 1. Ban on screening of Khasi Films
2. The future of the Khasi Film Industry.

The Khasi Films & Music Welfare Association (KMFWA) along with the Society for Performing Arts Development (SPADE) in an emergent meeting held Monday had jointly resolved to boycott the ongoing Indian Panaroma Film Festival 2014 currently being held in Shillong. Both the Associations feel that though such festivals are of importance in nature to promote film making in the state, however the Khasi film making industry itself is struggling for its long term continuity. As there are already 3 reasons that are disrupting its survival,
1. That the lack of commitment on the part of the stakeholders to address to the problem of film makers especially when local films are not at all being screened in cinema halls due to huge amount of fees being charged by hall owners and lack of co-operation from the hall owners to encourage screening local films.
2. That on May 2013 last, the Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District by order had prohibited screening of local films in cinema halls owing to complaints from certain section, that such local made films are not being censored thereby keeping film makers in the dark as the only option left to have a particular film censored is to get CBFC rating which itself is expensive. No doubt that CBFC rating is a must, but when films are not easily made available for screening then opting for getting a film censored remains baseless.
3. That the state government as such has not initiated any step at all to improve the infrastructures for film making in the state. Every film maker would indeed expect to produce good films from the state; however there is no state run film city to address the equipment constraint that each film maker looks forward to use while making a film. Thereby leaving each production house to depend on equipments hired out from Guwahati, which is again expensive.
The associations are of the opinion that alongside organizing such film festivals, the Government should also address to the above issues which is hindering film making in the state and also if Meghalaya is to be made a film destination hub, infrastructure should firstly be in place, since no film maker from outside the state would be willing to invest in the state as that would cost them dearly. A delegation comprising of members of both the association would soon meet up the Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma to submit a memorandum on the grievances faced by the film makers of the state.

799 likes, KFA seems to have made an only small impact. We look forward to create an awareness and uplift the one and only Khasi Film Industry. There will never be another except this one folks the Khasi Film Industry and KFA will do its way to get the best of the Khasi Film Industry.

Attention! Khasi & Jaintia film makers, due to recent developments it is suggested that CBFC ratings should be applied before release of any Digital film here in Meghalaya in the near future. When applying 2 types of application form is available Form I for celluloid & Form I-A for Video Films. Form I-A will be applicable for the Khasi & Jaintia Films unless otherwise. CBFC Regional office for north eastern states is in Guwahati.
