🌿 Educational Tour to Sikkim | B.Tech. Biotechnology (Final Year) 🌿

The Final Year B.Tech. Biotechnology students (31 students) of the College of Basic Sciences & Humanities (CBS&H), RPCAU, Pusa successfully undertook an educational tour to Sikkim from 29th December 2025 to 5th January 2026, under the guidance of Dr. Karma L. Bhutia, Tour Incharge along with Dr. Jyostnarani Pradhan (Assistant Professor) and Dr. Parinita Das (Assistant Professor) aimed at enhancing experiential learning and industry–academia exposure.

The team received a warm and gracious welcome from the Dr. A.K Pandey, Dean, faculty members, and students of the College of Horticulture, CAU (Imphal), Bermiok, South Sikkim, on 30th December 2025, marking an enriching beginning to the academic interactions during the tour.

During the programme, the students visited several premier educational and research institutions in Sikkim, including College of Horticulture, CAU (Imphal), Bermiok; ICAR–National Research Centre for Orchids, Pakyong; Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS), Gangtok; Sikkim University; College of Agricultural Engineering and Post-Harvest Technology, CAU (Imphal), Ranipool; State Biotech Hub; and Temi Tea Factory, South Sikkim.

The tour provided valuable insights into the practical and commercial applications of tissue culture techniques, particularly in orchids, as well as hydroponics and aeroponics technologies. Students were exposed to ongoing research activities and emerging priorities in horticulture and medical biotechnology, with special emphasis on indigenous crop plants and research strategies for their conservation and sustainable utilization. The visit to Temi Tea Factory offered hands-on understanding of orthodox tea processing techniques and value addition, linking biotechnology with agro-industrial practices.

Overall, the educational tour proved to be a highly enriching academic experience, strengthening students’ understanding of applied biotechnology, sustainable agriculture, and research-driven innovation, while fostering inter-institutional learning and professional exposure.

Constitution Day (Samvidhan Diwas) Celebration at CBS&H, RPCAU, Pusa 🇮🇳

College of Basic Sciences & Humanities, RPCAU, Pusa proudly celebrated Constitution Day (Samvidhan Diwas) on 26th November 2026 with great enthusiasm and respect for our nation’s guiding document.

The programme was chaired by Dr. Amaresh Chandra, Respected Dean, CBS&H. Faculties, non-teaching staff, and students actively participated in commemorating this important national day.

The event began with warm introductory remarks by Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Associate Professor (Agricultural Statistics) & College NSS Coordinator, followed by the Pledge-taking ceremony, reaffirming our commitment to the values enshrined in the Constitution.

Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Associate Professor & Head, Dept. of AB&MB, addressed the gathering on the significance of the Indian Constitution, emphasizing the fundamental rights and duties of every citizen.

In his address, Dr. Amaresh Chandra highlighted how the Indian Constitution was drafted by drawing inspiration from constitutions of various countries across the world as well as from India’s rich ancient scriptures and philosophies.

The celebration served as a reminder of our collective responsibility to uphold the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

During the ongoing admission process at RPCAU, Pusa, the College of Basic Sciences & Humanities (CBS&H) organized a Parents–Teachers Meeting in the college seminar hall. The session was gracefully chaired by Dr. Amaresh Chandra, Hon’ble Dean, CBS&H.

Newly admitted students, along with their parents, attended the interaction, where they were briefed about the University and, in particular, about the college facilities such as hostels, library resources, well-equipped laboratories, and the overall academic environment.

Parents expressed their satisfaction and confidence, sharing their hope for a bright and promising future for their children at this esteemed institute.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas "National Unity Day" Celebration at CBS&H, RPCAU, Pusa 🇮🇳

On 31st October 2025, the College of Basic Sciences & Humanities (CBS&H), RPCAU, Pusa, celebrated National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India

The event commenced with a pledge-taking ceremony reaffirming the commitment to uphold the nation’s unity and integrity, followed by an inspiring address by Dr. Amaresh Chandra, Dean, CBS&H, highlighting the vision and contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel—the Iron Man of India—in unifying the nation.

Guest Lecture at College of Basic Sciences & Humanities (CBS&H), RPCAU, Pusa 🌾

The College of Basic Sciences & Humanities (CBS&H) organized an insightful Guest Lecture on “From photons to productivity: how rice senses and survives low light” on 18th October 2025. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Lambodar Behera, Principal Scientist (Biotechnology), ICAR–National Rice Research Institute (NRRI), Cuttack, India.

Dr. Behera shared valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms governing low-light tolerance in rice and highlighted the recent advances in genomics and molecular breeding approaches aimed at developing rice cultivars resilient to sub-optimal light conditions. His lecture provided a deeper understanding of how modern molecular tools are being utilized to enhance stress tolerance and productivity in rice.

The session was attended with great enthusiasm by the faculty members and students of CBS&H, who actively interacted with the speaker and gained exposure to cutting-edge research in plant molecular biology and stress physiology.

🌱 The college extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lambodar Behera for his enlightening talk and for inspiring young minds toward innovation and scientific excellence in agricultural biotechnology.

College of Basic Sciences & Humanities (CBS&H), RPCAU, Pusa Celebrates its Foundation Day! 🌿

The College of Basic Sciences & Humanities (CBS&H) celebrated its Foundation Day on 16th October 2025 with great enthusiasm and pride. The programme commenced with the Foundation Day Lecture delivered by Dr. S.K. Pradhan, ADG (Food & Fodder Crops), ICAR, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest and joined the event online. The celebration began with a welcome address by Dr. K.L. Bhutia.

The event was graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Amresh Chandra, Dean, CBS&H; Dr. Mayank Rai, Dean, PGCA; Dr. U.K. Behera, Director Education; Dr. A.K. Singh, Director Research; Dr. D.K. Roy, Director Seed; and Dr. R.K. Jha, Director Extension Education, along with faculty members, and staff from CBS&H and other constituent colleges.

In his address, Dr. Amresh Chandra, Dean, CBS&H, highlighted the college’s remarkable achievements over the past year in academics, research, and extension activities. He urged everyone to rededicate themselves to the continued growth and excellence of the college. The Heads of all four departments also presented the key accomplishments of their respective departments during the year.

Prof. V.K. Sharma shared insights into the history and evolution of the college since its establishment in the early 1980s, while the dignitaries present extended their best wishes and blessings to the faculty and the college community.

As a gesture of appreciation, the faculties and staff of CBS&H were felicitated with flower pots on the occasion of the Foundation Day.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Nitesh Kumar Sharma and was coordinated by Dr. Jyotsnarani Pradhan.

Research Progress Assessment Visit at Department of Agricultural Biotechnology & Molecular Biology, CBS&H, RPCAU, Pusa
Dr. U.K. Behera, Director of Education, RPCAU, Pusa, visited the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology and Molecular Biology (AB&MB), College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, on 9th October 2025 to assess the research progress of postgraduate and Ph.D. students.
During the visit, Dr. Behera interacted with the students, discussed their ongoing research activities, and provided valuable suggestions for future improvement. On 10th October 2025, he, along with Dr. V.K. Sharma, Professor, and Dr. K.L. Bhutia, Assistant Professor, accompanied the PG and Ph.D. students to the student research field to review the ongoing field trials and experimental progress.
The visit provided an excellent opportunity for students to receive insightful feedback and motivation to enhance the quality and impact of their research work.
