We were privileged to host Dr. Subrata Maiti, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, NIT Rourkela as our distinguished guest speaker, whose eloquent address on “Rebuilding the Nation through the Vision of Swami Vivekananda" reminded us that youth is not merely an age, but a spirit of courage, purpose, and service. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences successfully organized a Five-Day Workshop on Environometrics using AI & ML from 15–19 December 2025. This workshop provided participants with comprehensive exposure to advanced econometric and data-driven methodologies pertinent to environmental and applied economic research. The programme encompassed an array of topics including time series analysis, panel data methods, quantile regression, threshold regression, Difference-in-Differences (DiD), Regression Discontinuity Design (RDD), energy efficiency, and spatial econometrics.

The workshop was meticulously coordinated by Associate Professor Bikash Ranjan Mishra (Convenor), alongside the Organising Committee comprising Dr. Bhisma Tyagi, Dr. Arun Kumar, Dr. Sibarama Panigrahi Parida, and Dr. Maithili Mohanty. Professor Jalandhar Pradhan Pradhan (Head of the Department), Professor Swadesh Kumar Prathiar (Dean, SRICCE), and Professor K. Umamaheswar Rao (Director, NIT Rourkela) honoured the event with their presence.

The Department extends its sincere gratitude to the esteemed resource persons: Professor Kamaiah Bandi (University of Hyderabad), Professor Haripriya Gundimeda (IIT Bombay), Professor Pabitra Kumar Jena (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University), Professor Dhaval Maheta (Veer Narmad South Gujarat University), Professor Mohd. Irfan (IIT ISM Dhanbad), Professor Santosh Kumar Sahu (IIT Madras), and Professor Chandra Sekhar Bahinipati (IIT Tirupati) for delivering insightful lectures and fostering engaging discussions.

The hands-on sessions, particularly those focusing on Python-based implementation and the application of AI and ML tools, proved to be highly impactful. These sessions equipped participants with practical experience in working with real datasets, enhanced their coding proficiency, and effectively bridged the gap between econometric theory and real-world research applications.
