The BJP-led NDA has announced Draupadi Murmu as its Presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.

Murmu would become the first tribal President of India and second ever female President if she is elected.

Born on June 20, 1958, Murmu served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021.

Hailing from Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district and coming from a tribal community, Murmu started out as a teacher and then entered into Odisha politics. She became MLA twice on BJP ticket from Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj (2000 and 2009).

Justice (Retd) Arun Kumar Mishra took charge as the chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC in New Delhi.

President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Justice Mishra as the NHRC chairperson based on the recommendation of a selection panel comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge. Justice Arun Mishra retired as Supreme Court Judge in September last year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 8th instalment of financial benefit under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme at 11 AM today through video conferencing.

This will enable the transfer of more than 19 thousand crore rupees to more than 9.5 crores beneficiary farmer families. During the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with farmer beneficiaries.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will be present on the occasion. Under the PM-KISAN scheme, a financial benefit of 6 thousand rupees per year is provided to the eligible beneficiary farmer families, payable in three equal 4-monthly installments of two thousand rupees each. The fund is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

In this scheme, Samman Rashi of over 1.15 lakh crore rupees has been transferred to farmer families so far.

Union Public Service Commission ( ) has deferred the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2021, scheduled to be held on 27th of June this year. The decision has been taken in view of the prevailing COVID situation. The Examination will now be held on 10th October, 2021.
