A one-day capacity-building program for headteachers of Upper Primary Schools in North Garo Hills was successfully conducted at DIET, Resubelpara today the 31st October, 2024, focusing on enhancing leadership, management, and pedagogical skills in alignment with NEP 2020. With 34 headteachers participating, the sessions aimed to strengthen school governance and promote student-centered learning.

The day began with registration, followed by a welcome address that highlighted the transformational role of school leaders. Dr. A. B. Marak led the initial session on leadership within the NEP 2020 framework, guiding participants on creating effective learning environments. Shri E. K. Marak’s session then explored effective school management, emphasizing the roles of School Management Committees (SMCs) and community engagement. Shri R. D. Shira focused on enhancing teaching quality through supportive leadership and professional development.

After lunch, headteachers engaged in group discussions to address leadership challenges, sharing solutions and learning from one another. The program concluded with a summary of key insights and a group photo session. Main takeaways included the importance of NEP-aligned leadership, community involvement for improved school management, and fostering a culture of innovation in schools. Participants expressed appreciation for the program’s practical approach and collaborative environment.

A sensitisation program for the School Managing Committees (SMCs) of elementary schools under Bajengdoba , Kosichora and Gosingpita CRCs was held on 23rd October, 2024 at Bajengdoba Multi Facility Hall with the aim to sensitize SMC members on their enhanced roles and responsibilities in light of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009.

The resource persons for the program were Dr. A.B. Marak, Associate Professor, Shri R.D. Shira, Assistant Professor, and Shri E.K. Marak, Assistant Professor. A total of 75 SMC members from 25 schools, including Presidents, Secretaries, and Parent members of the committees, actively participated.

During the session, participants were sensitized on the crucial role SMCs play in school governance and how their responsibilities have evolved in view of the new education policies. Group discussions were conducted where members were divided into smaller groups and given specific case studies to deliberate on. Each group later made a presentation of their discussion points and proposed solutions.

The interactive sessions helped deepen their understanding of how they can contribute to school improvement, ensuring accountability, inclusiveness, and overall development as envisioned in the NEP 2020 and RTE Act 2009.

The program was well-received by the participants, who appreciated the opportunity to engage, discuss, and learn more about their responsibilities. We look forward to seeing these valuable insights applied in their respective schools.
