नवजात शिशुओं में परेशानी की पहचान करना महत्वपूर्ण है ताकि समय पर चिकित्सा सहायता मिल सके। यहाँ कुछ सामान्य संकेत दिए गए हैं जो यह दर्शा सकते हैं कि एक नवजात शिशु को परेशानी हो रही है:

सामान्य संकेत:

सांस लेने में कठिनाई: तेज सांस लेना (प्रति मिनट 60 से अधिक सांसें), सांस लेने में घरघराहट या हांफना, सांस लेने के दौरान नाक का फूलना, छाती का अंदर धंसना।
त्वचा का रंग बदलना: नीलापन (विशेषकर होंठ, जीभ या चेहरे पर), पीलापन (पीलिया)।

तापमान में बदलाव: 100.4°F (38°C) से अधिक बुखार या 97.5°F (36.5°C) से कम तापमान।
खिलाने में समस्या: दूध पीने में असमर्थता या अनिच्छा, उल्टी (विशेषकर हरे रंग की), दूध पीने के दौरान पसीना आना।
मूत्र और मल में बदलाव: 24 घंटों में कोई मूत्र न आना, 48 घंटों में कोई मल न आना, सामान्य से कम गीले डायपर, असामान्य रंग या स्थिरता वाला मल।
व्यवहार में बदलाव: अत्यधिक सुस्ती या जागने में कठिनाई, अत्यधिक चिड़चिड़ापन या लगातार रोना जिसे शांत करना मुश्किल हो, कमजोर या असामान्य रोना, झटके या दौरे पड़ना।
शरीर में बदलाव: नाभि क्षेत्र से दुर्गंध, स्राव या खून बहना, सिर के ऊपर नरम स्थान (फॉन्टानेल) का फूलना, शरीर का ढीलापन या अकड़न।
रैश: तेजी से फैलने वाला, छालेदार या संक्रमित दिखने वाला रैश।
विशेष रूप से ध्यान देने योग्य संकेत:

बेहोशी या प्रतिक्रियाहीनता
शरीर का कमजोर या ढीला पड़ जाना
हर सांस के साथ कराहना या आह भरना
होंठ, जीभ या चेहरे का नीला पड़ जाना
यदि आप इनमें से कोई भी संकेत अपने नवजात शिशु में देखते हैं, तो तुरंत डॉक्टर से संपर्क करें या नजदीकी अस्पताल जाएं। नवजात शिशुओं में या नजदीकी अस्पताल जाएं। नवजात शिशुओं में बीमारियाँ तेजी से बढ़ सकती हैं, इसलिए शुरुआती पहचान और उपचार महत्वपूर्ण है। अपनी अंतर्ज्ञान पर भरोसा करें - यदि आपको लगता है कि कुछ ठीक नहीं है, तो चिकित्सा सलाह लेने में संकोच न करें।
