In the summer of 1999, the world witnessed one of the most intense battles fought at a height of over 15,000 feet. It was the Kargil War between India and Pakistan, and one man stood out amongst the bravest of the brave. His name was Vikram Batra, a young army officer who left an indelible mark on the history of our nation.
Vikram Batra was born in a small town in Himachal Pradesh, India. From a young age, he was fascinated with the army and dreamed of serving his country. He joined the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun and was commissioned into the 13th battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles.
In May 1999, Vikram Batra was posted to the Kargil sector where he led his team in the toughest of battles. He is famously known for his war cry, "Yeh Dil Maange More" which inspired his comrades and struck fear into the hearts of the enemy.
The battle of Kargil was one of the toughest battles fought in the history of the Indian Army. The enemy had taken strategic positions in the mountains, making it almost impossible to dislodge them. But Vikram Batra and his team were determined to take back what belonged to India.
Vikram Batra was known for his daring and bravery. He led his team from the front and made sure that his men were safe. During one of the operations, he rescued a wounded soldier from the enemy territory, despite being under heavy fire.
Vikram Batra's bravery and sacrifice did not go unnoticed. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military honor, for his valor in the Kargil War.
Vikram Batra's sacrifice will always be remembered as a shining example of the bravery and patriotism of our armed forces. His legacy lives on as an inspiration to the youth of our country.
