Addressing a press conference, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, "Congratulations to West Bengal for getting its first Bullet Train. The train will run from Varanasi to Siliguri via Patna. In the future, this bullet train corridor will also extend towards Guwahati. So, in a way, this is very good news for the Northeastern states and for Bengal."

"Along with this, a new freight corridor will also come to West Bengal, which will start from Dankuni in West Bengal and connect to Gujarat, and this freight corridor will also connect Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra," the minister added.

Earlier on Sunday (February 1), Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed to develop seven high-speed rail corridors across the country.

These are: Mumbai-Pune, Pune-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Bangalore, Hyderabad-Chennai, Chennai-Bangalore, Delhi-Varanasi, and Varanasi-Siliguri.
