Ways To Make Our Child Finish His Glass Of Milk! There is often a constant battle between parents and their children with regards to their eating habits. Parents prefer that the children eat and drink items that are nutritious and will aid their development. Amongst all the items which are under contention, milk is one that takes precedent. Milk is one food item that has been a point of contention and fight between parents and children across generations. While parents want their children to drink milk, many children want to do anything but do so. Today we will discuss some tips and techniques to entice your children to finish their milk without any fights or arguments: 1.Set An Example One reason why many children often refuse to finish their glass of milk is that their parents don’t drink milk. Many adults have already switched to either tea or coffee and many parents themselves dislike milk. This sets a bad example for their children and gives them a reason not to drink milk. One of the best ways to make them finish their glass of milk is to drink along with them. Children learn from observation and action rather than mere words. 2.Introduce Stories Children love stories and love their heroes. One method to make them drink milk is to associate a story of superhero drinking milk. This will give them an added incentive as most children in their early age dream of becoming a superhero of some sort. So pick their favourite sport or hero and associate a story of them drinking milk to get them enthused. 3.Pair It With Different Foods Children might be finding it difficult to drink plain milk alone. To avoid such situations, milk can be paired with different types of foods. Biscuits or cereals are prime examples of items that might be loved by children and taste amazing with milk. Worried parents can merely give their children wheat flakes or biscuit made of wheat. This ensures that the child has a healthy breakfast and completes their milk as well. 4.Flavoured Milk Plain Milk is what parents often insist upon for their children to drink in the morning. However, in a situation wherein children refuse to have such milk or they do not like it at all, we can achieve the next best solution. Flavoured milk, milkshakes, smoothies etc, can be given to the children. This will ensure that the kids love milk time as well as they consume milk without throwing tantrums. Parents can try different recipes to ensure that their children are having a wholesome and healthy milk-time. Milk is the reason for many arguments in many households. The time to drink milk often turns into a situation wherein the children have to be caught and forced to gulp down the milk. Milk drank in such a manner might not serve the purpose of nutrition for children and instead, the above-mentioned ways can be employed. This will ensure that the milk is drunk happily and the required nutrition is obtained by the body. It is always advisable to lead by example and understanding rather than enforce any rule on children, even if it is drinking milk.. Cardboard fun for kids! Some of the fondest memories from childhood of an adult you ask will be of making things with cardboard. The ever-versatile and dynamic ingredient cardboard is an integral part of the recipe of precious childhood memories for all. Easily available, cost-effective and lasting, cardboard is something that every child can play with. It is one of the rare things that has crossed the barrier created between well to do, middle class and below middle-class families as children of all families can be found playing with it. Three ways in which cardboard can be made use of to ensure children have fun are: 1.Swords: One of the manners in which kids can have fun and learn something is using cardboard to make swords for themselves. Sword fighting is a great physical exercise and can teach children self-defence. No to mention the thrill they would feel using swords. You don’t even have to worry about the children hurting themselves. 2.Foosball: This can be a great indoor activity to engage children in especially considering the coronavirus lockdown that has forced us to keep our little ones indoors. Foosball also helps in improving hand-eye coordination and can be an important developing tool in the child’s growing years. 3.Bird feeder/ Birdhouse: In the blazing hot summers, birds need a place to go for keeping themselves safe and dry. You can help your child make a house for the birds out of a cardboard box. Add an opening that functions as the door for the bird to go in and keep some grains as well as water in plastic cups inside. There is a joy that cardboard can provide that nothing else can to a child and this story is a testament to that. An endearing story for sure! One of the most precious and favourite memories of childhood for Anjali and Sanskriti included a cardboard box. Their family had recently bought a television that came in a gigantic box. Instead of simply throwing away the box, the sisters utilized the box to make their own castle where they cut doors, windows and added a small board that read ‘home sweet home’. To give it a homely touch, they also added lace curtains and spread a blanket inside the little castle with their favourite toys and books. The girls convinced an adult from the family to even put inside some light bulbs to ensure they had a light on during the evenings when it got dark. The rainy season was on which meant there were thunder, lightning and rains. While the adults stayed inside the house, the girls stayed in their castle kept in the verandah of the house. It had become their favourite place. One day, the girls went to sleep and when they woke up in the morning they found that it had rained excessively last night which had made the cardboard wet. The structure was not stable or safe enough for the girls to play anymore. The sisters took out their books and toys and with their hearts full bid goodbye to their castle. But the castle was their little piece of heaven, their safe place and they vowed to always remember it, cherish it and most importantly honour it by being the safe place for each other and trusting each other to confide their secrets in. The next time you have cardboard in the house, whether it’s from newly purchased equipment or that parcel from online shopping, get together with your child and get the brain juices flowing by thinking of how you the child can use it. Make your own castle or fort with cardboard. And if you don’t have cardboard around, go buy it from the nearest stationery store. We promise you the child’s excitement will be worth the trip to the store.. Six Ways to Help Children Enjoy Virtual Classrooms! Ever since the coronavirus outbreak, the world as we know it changed completely. Schools were shut all over the world, and education came to a standstill. But considering that no known cure has been found for the virus yet nor has any vaccine been developed. So, most schools are now moving towards online education. Virtual classrooms are the new normal and rightly so. Because how long can we keep the education on hold, even if it’s temporary. After all, the show must go on. All the schools are opting for virtual classrooms taking the current situation in mind. We at Shanti Juniors have always prioritized our children. It is why we decided to organize virtual classes for our precious preschoolers. However, children are restless and their attention span is momentary. While in the classroom, the teacher is present to bring back the children to the moment and to what’s being taught in the class in case children are in their own imaginary little world, the same becomes difficult to achieve in a virtual class as individually going up to a child and asking him/her to concentrate becomes difficult. The pros of virtual classrooms are far more than the cons but we cannot just ignore the challenges. Before the beginning of the virtual class, please ensure that the child has access to all supplies and materials that he/she may need for the class. This includes the device which can be an electronic tablet, a computer or even a mobile phone. If the classroom is being conducted on a specific app, make sure you understand and login onto it well before in time. Ideally, it’s best if you log in with your child fifteen minutes prior to when classes start. An online class from home does not equivalent to being lethargic and late. Shanti Juniors understand this issue and keeping the same in mind have mentioned below six ways to help children enjoy virtual classrooms: 1. Do not allow the children to take the class lying down. It will do nothing for them. Children lying down and participating in an online class will naturally feel sleepy soon and their concentration will be altered. 2. Build a relationship with your child’s teacher. Communicate regularly with the teacher and take every feedback that the teacher has in your stride. The teacher only has the best interests in heart for your child. 3. Help your child establish and maintain a daily schedule for the virtual class. This means that proper time management of the child’s day must be done. If your child is not well fed before class, he/she will be hungry. Similarly, if the child did not have a good night’s sleep and is not well-rested, he/she will feel sleepy during the class. These things will directly affect the child’s ability to focus and concentrate in the class. Parents need to properly plan the child’s day, including playtime, reading time and nap time while keeping the timings of the virtual classroom in mind. 4. Review the syllabus beforehand so that you have a brief idea about what is being taught and can answer all the doubts your child has. Teach your child to not hesitate to ask questions to the teacher incase he/she has any doubts. The teachers are there to help the students in every way they can and will be more than happy to help. 5. Parents should monitor the child’s progress every week. They should speak to your child and understand the trouble he/she is facing and take active steps to resolve them. 6. To further help your child enjoy the virtual class, ensure that comfortable study space is set up. If space is a study table, make sure the chair is comfortable. Add a pillow or two if the child cannot reach the height of the table. If there is no study table, parents can set up a portable study desk on the floor where the child has pillows carefully arranged against the wall to make him/her comfortable. Ensure that there is sufficient lighting, and all the materials that the child might need are within his/her reach. Prior to this, the child has only used electronic devices to play games or watch a cartoon or animated movie. The educational usage is a first for him/her. Be sure to praise the children genuinely after their online class and help them in every possible way to make the most of learning from the online class. Shanti Juniors preschool sincerely believes that learning is a continuous process and there should no hurdle in learning of preschoolers especially. Happy virtual learning!. 4 Indoor Movement Activities for Preschoolers 04/05/2020

4 Indoor Movement Activities for Preschoolers! All of us know that children need to burn off their excess energies. However, this can be particularly tough when the country is on lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic and children are being exposed to massive risk by going outside. Here are 4 Indoor movement activities to keep your little one engage and busy at home: 1. The Find Game: Pick a colour and ask your children to bring you items of that colour from all around the house. For example, tell them “Find something blue”. Children will move and search the entire house to bring you something blue. To make the activity more interesting, you can hide specific things and ask them to get it for you. e.g.: Get me the blue book from the room on the extreme left. 2. Move it with Paper Plates: This is two indoor activities combined into one. Turn a simple hour of the day into art hour and ask children to paint paper plates in four colours being red, yellow, blue and green. Since they have to use a colour per plate, it will be more fun and exciting for them to colour it. Now arrange the coloured plates in a line and ask them to step on only the green coloured plates [Make sure the plates are at reasonable and reachable distance for children]. Another alternative to this is asking children to put two hands on the paper plates, and two knees and move around on all fours. 3.Penguin Ball Walk: Take an inflated ball and ask children to keep it between their legs and try walking without dropping the ball. You can show the kids how penguins walk and ask them to try replicating it. To make this game interesting, you can turn it into a race by measuring who walks the longest distance. 4. Tape Shape Game: This is a brilliant game to teach children about shapes, letters, colours and numbers. Take various coloured tapes and make shapes, letters and numbers on the floor with this tape. Ask your child to stand on the letter, number, shape or colour of their choice and then give them instructions to reach the next destination, e.g.: ‘jump like a frog to number 8’or “crawl to the letter Z”. These activities are not just a great cure to boredom but also strengthen the body and aids in gross as well as fine more development of children. Use these activities to keep your children entertained and prevent them from creating utter chaos and ruckus in the house. Parents can also indulge in movement with intention activities like yoga, meditation, martial arts, and breathing exercises. Staying indoors is the best thing we can do for ourselves and our family right now. Stay home, stay safe. Happy parenting!

Teaching the Five Senses to Preschoolers! Children learn about the world around them through the five senses. The five senses of the body are smell, sight, taste, touch and hearing. The best way to teach children about these five senses is by teaching them to use these senses. Teach the ‘Five senses poem’ by Risa Jordan which is given below: I see with my eyes, I hear with my ears, Two eyes, two ears. I taste with my mouth, I smell with my nose, One mouth, one nose. I touch with my hands, I feel with my toes, Two hands, ten toes. My senses tell me I’m truly alive. Senses, one-two, three, four, five! Mentioned below are 5 activities that can be done to teach children about the five senses: 1. Take various objects and ask children to smell these things. You can use a variety of pleasant and unpleasant smells. These could be flowers like roses, oranges, perfume or even soap. With practice, they will be able to identify objects based on their smells. Another activity that can be undertaken is dim the lights of the room and ask children to maintain silence. Then ask children to notice all the sounds that they might be hearing, this could be the sound of the fan or that of the period bell, someone walking by or clapping. 2. Help children create sound shakes. Take two paper plates and stick them together leaving a little opening to insert things in it. Now take two-three things that can make a sound like some coins, paper clips, kidney beans and marbles. Insert these things in each different opening and ask children to observe the sounds from it. 3. Take children out for a walk and ask them to notice everything around them. Once back in the class, let them take turns to tell you what all they saw. This activity is a great way to improve memory skills and can be a good alternative for outdoor learning. 4. Get materials having a different texture to class and ask children to touch the same. A collection of fabrics including cotton, satin and silk can be used to teach kids the difference between soft, rough and smooth. You can use stones and a piece of marble to show them the difference of hard and smooth. 5. Taste Test is the best way to make children learn a sense of taste. Use a variety of items like a piece of lemon for sour, a piece of chocolate for sweet, salted nuts for salty and some chips for spicy. Try different items every week and watch children develop a sense of taste.

5 Ways to Teach Colours to Preschoolers! The ability of children to identify colours begins from an early age. But teaching children about colours can often be a daunting task that requires immense patience. However, the ability to identify colours is considered a milestone in a child’s developmental journey. It is important to develop the bridge between visual clues, words and colours by teaching children to identify colours. Children don’t have the ability to understand the difference between light green colour and a dark green colour right away. They lack the ability to understand it at an early age. Along with learning what each colour is called, children need to understand what colour represents; it’s not size, nor shape, nor the name of the object, nor the texture, not the number of things showing. The best way for children to learn colours is by exposing them to colours, showing them various colours and what objects are not of a particular colour. Begin with primary colours; red, yellow, blue, white, and black. Then move on to other colours. Children are experiential learners; therefore if they are taught to explore colours through all their senses such as sight, smell, sound, taste, and touch, they will learn better. Mentioned below are five ways in which colours can be taught to preschoolers: 1. Identify with a picture book: Take a basic book which you would use to teach the child alphabets. Now if the book shows A for an apple or aeroplane, show children how the apple is red in the book and the aeroplane is white in the book. Then show children an unripe apple, and show them how apple may sometimes not be red too. 2. I see colours book: Make a layered book by folding it where each page is a little longer than the one before. Each page has a different colour with the words “I see green” or “I see pink.” Children now have to look for objects of that particular colour written on the page. Parents help children cut out these images and then children glue it to the page. 3. Search the house: Show your child a particular colour, let’s say red. Now give him/her a piece of red paper and ask him/her to look for objects that match the red colour in the house. 4. Give children a colourful meal: While you give children different foods, introduce the food items with its colour. Like green vegetables, white rice, brown bread, red pepper, yellow lentil soup, etc. You can also take your child to the grocery store next time and play a colour game thereby teaching them how a tomato is red and how a banana is yellow. 5.I-Spy: A popular and favourite activity among kids. You can begin by taking your child for a walk in the neighbourhood and look for colours of a pre-decided colour where he/she says “I spy with my little eye, something blue”. This can be done to identify objects of the pre-decided colour. A variant of this activity is then saying “ I spy with my little eye, a ball”. Then the child identifies what colour the ball is..
