Cannonball flower or Nagalinga Pushpa or Nagalinga: Common names in India, referring to the snake-like structure over the flower’s center.Its androecium (male reproductive part) has a unique structure found only in the Brazil nut family. The androecium is characterized by a ring of fertile stamens surrounding the style, along with a unilateral prolongation (a hood-like structure seen in the image) extending from one side of the ring. The flowers are primarily pollinated by bees, particularly large carpenter bees (Xylocopa species). They are also visited by wasps, flower flies, and bumblebees.
