Very interesting and insightful talk delivered today by Prof. Tsuyoshi Komiya, Department of Earth Science & Astronomy, The University of Tokyo, Japan, on “Estimate of Nutrient Contents of Seawater and Biological Evolution Through Geologic Time”. The students and faculty enjoyed the talk and the Q&A session that followed.

Geological fieldwork and lithological mapping of the Cuddapah Supergroup rock formations were carried out by the Integrated MSc 4th Year (2022–27 batch) and the Regular MSc 1st Year (2025–27 batch) Applied Geology students of our departmentGeological fieldwork and lithological mapping of the Cuddapah Supergroup rock formations were carried out by the Integrated MSc 4th Year students (2022–27 batch) and the Regular MSc 1st Year students (2025–27 batch) of the Department of Applied Geology. This field investigation forms an essential and rigorous component of the university curriculum. The programme was successfully conducted under the meticulous training and guidance of Prof. Nurul Absar and Dr Amitava Chatterjee.
The department sincerely acknowledges the support and cooperation of officials from various government departments and local people, whose assistance greatly contributed to the successful completion of the fieldwork.. This field investigation forms an essential and hardcore component of the university curriculum. The programme was successfully conducted under the meticulous training and guidance of Prof. Nurul Absar and Dr. Amitava Chatterjee.

Prof. K Srinivasamoorthy and Prof. Rajneesh Bhutani inaugurated the event, briefly addressing the significance and cultural importance of such festivities within institutions, the vibrant and joyful atmosphere of the department, and the positive impact they have on students’ overall growth, including their academic success.

We are delighted to share that Dr AMITAVA CHATTERJEE, the dynamic and resourceful faculty from our department, is convening a scientific session at the prestigious international “GOLDSCHIMDT CONFERENCE 2026” to be held in Montreal, Canada, from 12th-17th July 2026.
The title of the session is “FROM SUTURES TO SUMMITS: DECODING THE GEODYNAMIC EVOLUTION OF OROGENS THROUGH TIME”, and abstracts are invited for submission under the theme - Dynamics and Evolution of the Lithosphere.

International Coastal Cleanup Day (ICCD) – 2025
Pledge – Rally – Coastal Cleanup @ Kalapet Beach, Opposite to Pondicherry University, Puducherry, jointly organised by:

The main objective of the beach cleanup drive is to inspire people to clean up beaches, raise awareness about the importance of preserving and protecting the world’s oceans and waterways, and address the issue of marine trash.
