🚀 Official Launch of Placement Website & Brochure | 2023–27 Batch

The Department of Biotechnology, Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE) is delighted to announce the successful launch of the Placement Website & Brochure for the 2023–27 Batch, held on 7th September 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Biotech Conference Hall, SVCE.

The event was graced by Dr. S. Vino, Professor & Deputy Director – Alumni Affairs, School of Bio Sciences and Technology, Vellore Institute of Technology, as the Chief Guest. His presence and valuable insights added significance to this important milestone in strengthening our students’ career readiness and industry connect.

Workshop on Mammalian Cell Culture

The Department of Biotechnology, Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE), in association with Illumegene, is organizing a Five Days Hands-on Workshop on “Mammalian Cell Culture: Subculturing to Cytotoxicity Evaluation” from 28th September to 2nd October 2026.

The workshop is designed to provide participants with practical training in mammalian cell culture and molecular analysis techniques, combining expert sessions with hands-on laboratory training.

The key modules include:
Aseptic Technique & Contamination Control
Cell Revival & Recovery
Cell Subculturing & Maintenance
Cell Viability & Growth Assessment
Cell Cryopreservation & Thawing

The programme is particularly beneficial for UG/PG students and research scholars interested in developing their laboratory competence and research skills in cell culture and molecular biology.

Registration Fee: ₹1,500/-
(Includes workshop manual, kit and refreshments)
Maximum Participants: 25

FACULTY HIGHLIGHT | DR. K. DIVAKAR

The Department of Biotechnology, Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE) proudly highlights Dr. K. Divakar, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, for his contributions to Teaching, Research, Innovation, Student Mentoring and Industry–Academia Engagement.

1. RESEARCH & ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
With 12 years of academic experience and 6 years of research experience, Dr. Divakar’s core research areas include Microbial Metagenomics, Enzymology, Bioprospecting and Antimicrobial Resistance. His expertise encompasses Next Generation Sequencing, metagenomic data analysis, enzyme production, purification and characterization, enzyme immobilization, HPLC, FPLC, CD-spectroscopy, protein biophysics and bioinformatics.

2. RESEARCH CONTRIBUTIONS
• 29 publications
• 20 SCI/WoS-indexed journal papers
• 9 book chapters
• 19 first/corresponding-author publications
• Cumulative Impact Factor: 54.8

3. FUNDING & GRANTS
Dr. Divakar has contributed to and secured funding across research, academic programmes and student innovation initiatives:
• ₹90.70 lakhs — DST, Government of India, research funding
• ₹3.96 lakhs — AICTE funding for organizing an STTP
• ₹2.50 lakhs — ATAL funding for organizing an FDP
• USD 2,500 — iGEM Impact Grant, iGEM 2023, Team SVCE-CHENNAI

4. RESEARCH & INNOVATION
His major research achievement includes the DST-INSPIRE Faculty Research Grant of ₹90.70 lakhs for the project “Metagenome derived nitroreductases for degradation of nitro compounds.”

he has also contributed to innovation initiatives through the R&D Cell and Café IIC-SVCE, and served as an evaluator for SVCE-Start-up-Surge.
