A Management Development Programme (MDP) on “Earthquake Resistant Construction of Critical Infrastructures (Buildings & Bridges)”, under the Centre of Excellence in Disaster Management, was inaugurated on 16th December. The programme is scheduled to take place from 16–19 December 2025. Ar. Sneha Kumari is the Coordinator and lead facilitator.
In view of Bihar’s vulnerability to seismic hazards and the growing need for safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure.This programme focuses on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Seismic Retrofitting Techniques, Rapid Visual Screening (RVS), Earthquake -Resistant Bridge Design, Early Warning Systems,Post-Disaster Reconstruction & Disaster Management etc. for effective implementation of earthquake -resistant measures in their infrastructure projects, enhancing safety and resilience in the face of seismic threats.
There are 25 participants, comprising Dy. Directors, Executive Engineers, and Assistant Engineers from the Building Construction Department, Govt. of Bihar and is facilitated by experts from DMI, along with invited experts from IITs, NITs, and BIT Mesra, who are sharing technical knowledge and best practices to strengthen earthquake resilience and disaster preparedness in the state.

A lecture will be delivered by the distinguished scholar, Prof. Ram B. Bhagat, Visiting Professor at the Institute for Human Development, New Delhi, on 10th December 2025 at our transit campus.
Prof. Bhagat will share his extensive research, exploring the complex relationships between labor migration, evolving urban landscapes, and their profound impact on human wellbeing. His insights draw upon two decades of experience as Professor and Head of the Department of Migration and Urban Studies at IIPS, Mumbai.

A Management Development Programme (MDP) on “Application of ICT and Early Warning System for Disaster Risk Reduction: Strengthening Capacities in Bihar” was launched yesterday. The programme is scheduled to take place from 3–5 December 2025. Er Naveen Kumar, a member of the Centre of Excellence in Disaster Management, is the Coordinator and lead facilitator.
Amid increasing climate-induced risks, Bihar requires stronger, faster, and more technology-driven preparedness systems. This programme focuses on leveraging ICT tools, Early Warning Systems (EWS), GIS, Remote Sensing, Decision Support Systems, and innovative digital platforms to enhance disaster readiness and reduce loss of lives and property. Together, we aim to strengthen Bihar’s disaster resilience through technology, innovation, and capacity building.
There are 24 participants, comprising ADMOs and Programmers from the Disaster Management Department, representing various districts of Bihar.
The MDP is facilitated by an experienced team of experts in ICT, Early Warning Systems, and Disaster Management. Specialists from IMD, FMISC, BIRSAC, and CWC will play a vital role in the programme by providing technical insights into early warning operations. The IMD expert will explain weather monitoring, forecasting, and hazard alerts, while the FMISC facilitator will cover flood forecasting and hydrological data analysis. BIRSAC will contribute knowledge on GIS, remote sensing, and satellite-based hazard mapping, and the CWC specialist will highlight river monitoring and water-level forecasting. Together, they will help participants understand how key technical agencies will strengthen disaster preparedness and early warning in Bihar.

The Centre of Excellence in Disaster Management (CoEDM) at Development Management Institute (DMI) - Patna , is conducting a four-day MDP on “Mainstreaming DRR Strategies for Resilient Agriculture in Bihar” from 18–21 November 2025. Designed for Agriculture Officers, it builds capacity to integrate Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) into agricultural planning. Covering DRR concepts, climate impacts, the Sendai Framework, Bihar’s DRR Roadmap, climate-smart practices and ICT tools, the programme equips officers to assess vulnerabilities, adopt resilient strategies, and align DRR and Agriculture Roadmaps for future-ready farming systems. Experts from Disaster Management Department Govt. of Bihar , International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), Yugantar, and academia, equip officers to assess vulnerabilities, adopt resilient strategies, and effectively converge and implement Bihar’s DRR and Agriculture Roadmaps for a more resilient agricultural future.
