hosts workshop on and responsible social media use
In the era dominated by digital media and the rapid rise in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), distinguishing fact from fiction has become more critical than ever.
Keeping this need in view, The Cognilens, a leading organisation dedicated to media literacy, , and youth empowerment, held an enlightening and engaging workshop at , New Delhi, on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
Audiences from diverse backgrounds, such as students of mass communication and journalism, UPSC aspirants, media professionals, and NEET/JEE candidates, participated in the event.
Distinguished speakers shared their in-depth insights into various aspects of media literacy and their thoughts regarding how to check disinformation.
Dr Abdul Quadir Siddiqui from the Department of Mass Communication at Jamia Hamdard, Parijat Kaul, Senior Consultant at Prasar Bharati, and seasoned journalist Saurabh Kumar Shahi shared invaluable insights that lasted for over two hours.
The speakers addressed crucial topics regarding the use of social media. The central points of the discussion were best practices for responsible online engagement and identifying fake news, misinformation, and disinformation.
There were also discussions about the techniques needed to recognise and counter misleading narratives, fake news, positive use of social media, and strategies to influence public policy and welfare.
The need for engaging government officials and various departments for public works and effective ways to collaborate with authorities for community development was also discussed in the workshop.
The speakers emphasised the legal and social implications of unverified news and the repercussions of spreading the same.
Moderated by Saiyed Zegham Murtaza from The Cognilens, the workshop ensured that every participant gets some valuable lesson regarding the use of social media in the age we are living in.
Cognilens aims to establish critical thinking and make people responsible for their consumption of media.
The event was also about empowering people, especially the youth, to become more responsible towards their duty as citizens through promoting media literacy and its various aspects that have become relevant with time.
Noor Nawaz Khan, Director of Hind Guru Academy, extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to the speakers and attendees for their enthusiasm and active participation.
In the future, Cognilens plans to host events and workshops on climate change, AI, governance, and training programs in collaboration with its national and international partners.
