Very happy to collaborate with Studio Nilima on the next issue of their Journal.

..Long before the words lockdown and social distancing were introduced to our vocabulary, we have lived through curfews, bandhs, blackouts, earthquakes, landslides, floods and so much more. We have also embodied these experiences in our songs and poetry, in our weaving patterns and our tattoos, in our stories and our folklore, in our prayers and petitions. This call is an invitation to the youth of the region to share these different ways in which you tell your story of living in this time of the Pandemic.

Artist Call Out – Unearthed Commission

A Jodhpur RIFF - Rajasthan International Folk Festival x Festival of Voice 2020/21 Wales-India Project.

We are looking for expressions of interest from emerging, talented singer-songwriter-composers in Western, Southern and Northeastern India to work in collaboration with an animator/ illustrator based in Wales. This new commission will be artist led, supported by the British Council and produced by Festival of Voice and Jodhpur RIFF.

The project is open to all women (cis and trans) and aims to explore themes around representation, taking into consideration issues directly related to their lived experiences. It will consider challenges of working across borders in different cultural context and the use of digital technologies in order to break down barriers to participation for all women (cis and trans) and to develop long-term sustainable collaboration.

Artists writing and singing in regional languages and dialects from rural communities and root traditions are welcome.

Time line:
•First phase of the project to be completed by 30th November 2020, to include sharing of the R&D digitally
•Final Phase of the project is to be presented at FoV (Wales) and JRIFF (Rajasthan) in October/November 2021
