What devices will run iOS 5?
Before you get into the upgrade process itself, you’ll want to make sure you actually have a compatible device. Because of new features and enhanced graphical animations, iOS 5 may require more processing power than your device offers; as such, Apple has limited the operating system to the following models:
iPhone models: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S
iPad models: iPad (no support for Multitasking Gestures, though), iPad 2
iPod touch models: iPod touch (third generation), iPod touch (fourth generation)
If an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is not recognized in iTunes on Windows, the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) may need to be restarted. Alternatively, you may see the following error when connecting your device:
"This [device] cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device Service is not started."
Resolution:
Win XP
Close iTunes and disconnect the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Choose Start > Control Panel.
Inside the Control Panel, open Administrative Tools.
Open Services.
Select Apple Mobile Device and click Stop the service
After the service has stopped, click Start the service and set it to automatic
After the Apple Mobile Device service has started again, open iTunes and connect the device.
Windows Vista or Windows 7
Close iTunes and disconnect the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Click the Windows Start button Start button.
In the Start Search field type Services.
In the Programs section of the search results, Click "Services".
Select Apple Mobile Device and click Stop the service
After the service has stopped, click Start the service and set it to automatic
After the Apple Mobile Device service has started again, open iTunes and connect the device.
if the problem still persists call us for a quick remote access session.
