The School
Bharat Vidyalaya Karadi English Medium. There are around 360 children studying with us who come from several villages in this coastal region. Transport is also provided to these students. We currently provide education from Nursey to Grade 9. All our classrooms are equipped with projectors. We have a large decent library and a fully equipped computer lab with wi-fi facilities. We also have Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories. The Organization
Bharat Vidyalaya Kelavani Mandal established in 1921 (under influence of Mahatma Gandhi) manages the school. We are a non profit making organization currently under honorary chairmanship of Mr.Mahesh Karadia from the UK since 2002. The Location
Karadi is located about 10 kms from the city of Navsari, Gujarat State, India on the way to the historical seaside village of Dandi approximately 250 kms north of Mumbai. Brief History
In 1930 Gandhiji began his salt protest against the British and marched to Dandi. After his protest in Dandi, Gandhiji with more than 80 of his aides and supporters came to Karadi. Our school became their home and Gandhiji from his hut under the mango tree, wrote a letter to the Viceroy of his intentions to protest at the salt works at Dharasana. From here with the help of the local independence fighters he organised meetings in the surrounding areas and encouraged people to fight against the British rule. Support for Gandhiji was overwhelming and he declared that Karadi was to become his permanent address. But after living for only 22 days in Karadi, he was arrested by the British on the midnight of 5th May 1930 and sent to prison in Yarvada. The Job
Volunteer teachers to teach in English at our English Medium Primary and Secondary School for a period of six months from June 2016. They will work in the school and organize creative activities that will help increase their knowledge and sharpen their talents. They will help improve spoken English by building their confidence. The organization will provide economy airfare from London Heathrow to Mumbai and return. Road transportation from Mumbai to Karadi and return. Accomodation and a full single meal. Volunteers will need to apply for 6 months visitor visas at their own cost. Volunteers will benefit by working in a rural environment and experience the interesting culture of India. Teaching English to children in India is the most rewarding experience the volunteers will gain. Applications
