Sarojini Naidu was a prominent poet and freedom fighter in India. She was born on 13th February 1879, which is celebrated as National Women’s Day in India to honour her legacy and achievements. She was also the first female governor of the United Provinces (now Uttar Pradesh) and the first Indian woman to become the president of the Indian National Congress. She was known as the “Nightingale of India” for her beautiful poetry that expressed her love for India and its culture. She played an active role in the Indian independence movement and was arrested several times for participating in civil disobedience campaigns. She died on 2nd March 1949 at the age of 70
