Listening tips to Improve your score:
1. Section 1 is simple and is a social interaction mostly on phone.
2. Section 2 is also social, but only one speaker, example a tour guide giving directions.
3. Section 3 is academic in nature and is generally a discussion between 2-4 speakers.
4. Section 4 has one speaker with academic content.
5. If you decide to use capital letters, then all should be in capital letter. If you are using lower case, then you need to use lower case throughout, however remember that the first word should be capital, for name, etc
6. Read the instruction of the question very clearly. Check the limit of the words that you can write in the instructions.
7. For multiple choice answers, write the correct letter or the number in the answer sheet. For example, a) Spring, b) Summer, c) Winter. If the correct answer is Summer, then write b in the answer sheet. If you write ‘Summer’ then the answer will be wrong. Always read the instructions.
8. In Listening, keep your eye on the next question.
9. Write down shorter version of words as notes in your question paper.
10. Common traps to check your IELTS Listening skill is change in answer. Keep on listening till you are sure.
11. Listen carefully for plural (s)
12. If you don’t know the answer, guess. Don’t leave a blank space.

Some Writing Tips for IELTS, courtesy British Council
Analyse each task properly and spend some time making notes
Highlight or underline key words in the tasks to make sure that you focus on what you have to do
Plan your answers
Use paragraphs clearly; put one idea in each paragraph
Do not repeat ideas using different words
Do not copy whole sentences from the question – you will receive no marks for this
Keep to the topic; do not write about unrelated subjects
Manage your time; remember, Task 2 is worth twice as much as Task 1
Spend approximately 20 minutes on Task 1 and approximately 40 minutes on Task 2
Pay attention to the number of words required for each task; you will lose marks if you do not write at least 150 words for Task 1 and at least 250 words for Task 2
Learn to recognise how long 150 and 250 words look in your handwriting; you will not have time to count during the test
You must write your answers in full; answers written in note form or in bullet points will lose marks
Pay attention to spelling, grammar and punctuation; you will lose marks for mistakes
Avoid informal language, except when mentioned for Task 1
Do not memorise model answers; examiners are trained to recognise them and your test will be invalid
Spend several minutes re-reading and correcting your answers
