This image, taken during the rainy season in the Western Ghats, reflects the deep relationship between nature and local communities. The mist-covered hills, dense forests, and traditional tiled roof showcase how people adapt to monsoon ecology through vernacular architecture and seasonal practices. For indigenous groups, the rains are not just climatic but sacred, influencing agriculture, forest gathering, and spiritual beliefs. The scene embodies the cultural ecology of the region, where nature and culture are deeply intertwined.

For 10,000 years, the Selk’nam people walked the frozen lands of Tierra del Fuego, at the edge of the world.
A land of icy winds, endless horizons… and fire. 🔥
Early explorers saw smoke rising from the Selk’nam bonfires… and called this place “The Land of Fire.”

For centuries, the Selk’nam lived untouched by the outside world—until the late 19th century, when colonizers arrived.
With them came disruption… violence… and loss.

Disease, displacement, and extermination campaigns followed.
A once-thriving people, now nearly lost to history.

Yet, their story is not over.
A 2005 poll found that 696 people still identify as Selk’nam descendants.
Their bloodline endures. Their spirits remain.
🔥 Because the fire… never truly dies.
