A good cover page and a readable document should be frameable, and you would love to flip through it, even without reading what's inside. That's documentation and design for you. And we are obsessed with it, spending an hour just to make sure the font and size is appealing.
Each document is more than words. It's art, words and fonts.

Here are a few thoughts from my series on coming to terms with mortality and death. This specific post deals with forgiving people who wronged you, people you have wronged, and in both cases, you haven't had a chance to ask or give forgiveness.

Heya! This custom designer T-shirt is our latest offering.
Made from cotton (from the three quality choices, this is the 2nd best; the lowest pinched the skin while the highest made no sense for a T-shirt).
The prints will outlast machine washing (no guarantees if your mom or wife erase it with their hands).
Should you choose to give it away after six months, we will take it back & give you a discount on your next purchase (if you have the cruel heart to do so).
Should you encounter any other problem with your T-shirt, well, follow what is written on it, literally.
The cost is 700/- (no delivery charges)
You can place your order by sending a message/text: 988-636-0444.
Awaiting to hear from you.

Over the past few months, I went around Mysore approaching colleges, be it Humanities, Commerce, or Engineering, about a free talk on road safety (I’ve attached a poster). Out of the odd 15 I went to, only 1 responded.
While grateful for the opportunity, at the end of my presentation, the students were huddled to the next class. Even getting participants to sit for the talk involved some coaxing from the organizing faculty to the other subject teachers to let them go for an hour. And it was met with grumbles & protests.
Indeed, the four-year duration from the previous three years for undergraduate courses, & the implementation of many reforms of the NEP has thrown the teaching schedule out of gear, & the focus is on completing the syllabus.
So, any talk by speakers is judged on
1. Their expertise & name in the field
2. NAAC (National Assessment & Accreditation Council) grading for the subject
The second option is where the college decided that talking about road safety would be worthwhile to show to the NAAC committee (which gives grades to colleges & universities, & help to set the benchmarks for higher education & professional courses in India).
And this is where I find myself searching for answers: the age group of 18 and above forms the biggest two-wheeler market; from electric scooters to 400 cc superbikes, the first motorcycle for many, especially boys, becomes their first induction, the right of passage, as motorcyclists.
It also forms the largest age group of road casualties, where a majority of the 1,50,000 deaths that happen from road accidents in India/per year, are in the age group of 18-30, & the statistics for 2020 included my brother too.
Neither the motorcycle manufacturers nor the dealers take any responsibility for insisting on safety gear or lessons; parents give in to the demands of their children, hoping the college is in charge of imparting these lessons.
But where can maturity prevail, in an environment filled with peer pressure, hormones & forming identity? It makes more sense for the college to charge a parking fee, & to stop at that; college festivals, a big draw for admissions & publicity, have an automobile show that showcases the fastest, biggest & loudest motorcycles, followed by popular YouTubers of motorcycles & vloggers as guests, along with stunts.
But hardly any attention is given to lessons on motorcycle safety, demonstration of protective gear, or talks from experienced motorcyclists, people who have met with an accident, or parents who have lost their loved ones, sons & daughters, and never saw them graduate.
Road safety discussions in colleges should be more than grading for NAAC, trying to figure out where to fit it in a day’s schedule, or trying to dump students from the first year, so that those in the final year can focus on their coaching.
Nothing prepares you for an accident, & there is no crash course for crashes.

Shivu sells sugarcane juice in front of the Maharaja's college gate, beside the Institution of Engineers. For each glass he sells, there's hard work, dedication, & sense of satisfaction.
From losing his father at a young age, dropping out of school, having been evicted, being looked down upon for his profession & battling depression, Shivu has seen more than a fair share of problems.
But being a street vendor hasn't stopped him from dreaming simply, & gaining more than money: friends, well-wishers & a good night's rest.
Ide Nanna Jeevna looks at the lives of ordinary Mysoreans, and their professions & tries, in all humility, to tell their stories.
This is part of TheWorkshopFactory (www.theworkshopfactory.in) & Muthati Talkies initiative to bring stories of ordinary people & preserve them for the coming generations.
