Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado received the Nobel Peace Prize for promoting democratic rights in her country.

“When authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognize courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist”, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said in its citation.

A large Ganesha statue has been discovered in Dieng, Central Java, Indonesia.

A farmer in Dieng found the statue during excavation work. According to officials, this is the largest Ganesha statue ever discovered in the region. Further digging also revealed parts of a temple roof near the site.

Dieng Tourism Management Unit head Deng Aryadi Darwanto stated that this statue is the biggest among all Ganesha artifacts found so far.

> “This Ganesha statue is larger than the one in the Kalisa Museum collection. It measures about 120 centimeters on its longest side, 90 centimeters on the shorter side, and 140 centimeters tall including the head,” he said. The statue also features a lotus flower carving.

He added that the exact period of the statue cannot be determined solely based on its decorative motifs. The statue is made of white stone with a blackish tint. Based on old Dutch records, there are several historical sites in the surrounding area — including the Mager Sari Temple to the north.

Tri Mulantoro, a member of the Central Java DPRD Commission, said the discovery highlights Dieng’s importance as a center of historical heritage. He emphasized that better coordination is needed between Wonosobo, Banjarnegara, and the Central Java Provincial Government to preserve and promote the region’s cultural and archaeological wealth.
