Doctors day wishes by some patients jogged memories over last 18 years.
First one to wish me today was a staff of ours. Many years back when she was catching the train back home she was dragged between the train and the platform. She was brought to casualty with her ankle and foot dangling on a pedicle of anterior tibial artery. I received a call from dr atul even before my team could see her. A quick external fixator followed by reconstructive work by sitaramprasad sir saved her limb. She fully recovered. Her enthusiasm at work and sprightly gait completely hides what she went through.
Mr s came in with discitis in 2006. Was quite straightforward to treat but he keeps in touch. Retired in Jaipur but visits everytime he’s here.
Miss N came a decade back with tuberculous meningitis and full blown rickets ; multiple fractures. Was very very serious. Deepu sir treated her with an Ommaya, Anita managed her medically, I just had to give her vitamin d and calcium and reassure her that she will be fine. She recovered fully and often drops in to say hi.
Mr R worked as a chef in copper chimney. He was knocked off his bike, came with GCS 3 and few fractures.
Craniotomy, fracture fixation followed. He was on level 4 for weeks in a vegetative state. His family constantly talking to him and trying to wake him up. We were not very hopeful.
But He actually woke up one day. He rehabbed. Much to our surprise he went back to work in copper chimney central kitchen a year after that. He was in touch with me. Then I received his wedding invitation. I went for his wedding. Now a proud father.
Mr M was a Refinery worker in mahul. Used to travel by train from kalyan.
A decade back he was found unconscious covered with blood in mumbra tunnel.
When I attended him in casualty his entire body indeed was covered in blood. I wasn’t hopeful at all inspite of decent experience in trauma management.
He had head injury, his face was flattened, he had multiple segmental open fractures of all four limbs.
ATLS protocol, damage control in icu followed by multiple visits to operation theatre saved him.
He managed to go home.
He walked after 3 months.
Subsequently he joined work at refinery AND served out till retirement.
This has all been possible because of the robust teamwork we have here.
The entire team is able to function as one entity.
