Kalpavruksha - a Steiner inspired school Kalpavruksha - the village school, inspired by the philosophy of Dr. Rudolf Steiner Kalpavruksha - the tree which has the power to fulfill any wish.

Taking inspiration from this, Kalpavruksha - the village school has been initiated by Priyanka and Mangesh Panhalkar at Kanjurmarg, Mumbai. Like a seedling growing slowly but steadily into a mighty tree under loving care and nurturing, every child needs a loving and secure environment to grow into a well balanced, compassionate and responsible adult. At Kalpavruksha we strive to provide such an environment to every child enabling him to discover his inherent unique capabilities. This would help him to grow into a confident and self assured adult capable of charting his course judiciously through the complexities of life. In this bustling metropolis, the school is located in the sleepy little suburb of Kanjurmarg. The school's village like ambience is intended to help city bred children discover and savour the unhurried and simple joys of village life. Given the demands and rigours of city life, this unfettered and organic setup provides a calm environment and stimulates the creative processes leading to wholesome development.

The seeds had grown... and so had their curiosity. 🌱

Returning to the farm for their second visit, the students stepped into the next stage of their farming journey, transplanting the very paddy saplings they had sown during their previous visit.

As they worked in the fields, they learned why paddy fields are levelled, how saplings are planted in neat rows, and experienced first-hand the care, patience, and teamwork that go into growing our food.

The day was filled with muddy feet, joyful moments, feeding fish, a stop at Kihim Beach, a delicious lunch, and plenty of laughter along the way.

With every visit, the children deepen their connection with nature and discover that some of the best learning happens through experience.

A day on the farm became a day of discovery. 🌱

The children witnessed how land is prepared for cultivation, operated a seed-sowing machine, and learned why bunds and proper spacing are important in farming.
As they explored the farm, they observed fruit trees, learned about cows and fish farming, and discovered fascinating details such as how a cashew seed grows outside the fruit.
The learning continued beyond the fields as they built small huts using coconut leaves, created a traditional sigdi with bricks and mud, and experienced how soapnut (aretha) can be used as a natural cleanser.

Through observation, participation, and hands-on experiences, the children gained a deeper appreciation for farming, traditional rural skills, and sustainable ways of living.
