Divorce is already a life-altering event for a child. We must ensure it doesn’t become a traumatic one.

While two parents may no longer be a couple, they are still a mother and a father to the same child. These candid voices prove that when parents choose to center conflict or alienation over connection, it is the children who lose their voice and their peace.

Real maturity means choosing your children's stability over your adult emotions.

Children have a fundamental right to love and belong to BOTH parents freely. When we force them to choose, erase a parent, or perpetuate the fighting, we are not protecting them—we are harming them.

Let’s focus on the solution:

✅ Acknowledge that children need both parents to thrive.
✅ Stop using children as messengers or loyalty battlefields.
✅ Invest in a cooperative shared parenting model from Day One.

Divorce doesn't break a family; continuing the conflict does. Prioritize their stability. 🧡

"Parental Alienation doesn't only take children away from parents.

It takes them away from grandparents too."

Research by Olivia Bounds & Mandy Matthewson (2022) published in the Journal of Family Issues found that grandparents often experience the same parental alienating behaviours used against targeted parents.

The consequences are heartbreaking.

Grandparents may spend years missing birthdays, school events, holidays, milestones, and everyday moments that can never be recreated.

Many live with the fear that they may never see their grandchildren again during their lifetime.

Some sacrifice their retirement savings to help their children fight for contact in court.

Many endure a double grief:
💔 The loss of their grandchildren.
💔 The loss of their own children as they once knew them.

And they carry a double burden of worry:
• Worry for their grandchildren's future.
• Worry for their own child's wellbeing.

When a child loses a loving grandparent, the loss does not disappear.

One day, that child may have to live with unanswered questions, missed memories, and a relationship that was taken away before they had the chance to understand its value.

Children deserve access to safe, loving, and supportive extended family relationships.

Because grandparents are not replaceable.

They are part of a child's history, identity, and sense of belonging.

GRANDPARENT ALIENATION IS REAL.

A grandfather's birthday came and went.

He did not ask for gifts.

He did not ask for celebrations.

He simply wanted to spend time with his grandson.

A father wanted to celebrate Father's Day with his son.

A son wanted to celebrate his father's birthday with his child.

Three simple family moments.

Three opportunities to create memories.

A grandson was finally reunited with his grandparents.

For a few precious hours, three generations were together again.

But behind those smiles are years of missed birthdays, missed school events, missed festivals, missed hugs, and missed memories that can never be replaced.

Grandparent alienation does not only hurt grandparents.

It deprives children of love, wisdom, family history, traditions, and a sense of belonging.

Children deserve relationships with their grandparents.

Especially when those grandparents are growing older, facing health challenges, and longing to bless the children they love.

On Grandparent Alienation Awareness Day (Jun 14), let us remember:

Children do not benefit when loving grandparents are erased from their lives.

A child's family tree should not be cut down by conflict.

Every missed moment is a memory that can never be recreated.

Five years and four months.

That is how long these grandparents have lived without the laughter, hugs, birthdays, and memories of their grandchildren.

Grandparental alienation is a silent grief rarely spoken about.

It is watching childhood pass by through photographs, silence, and unanswered longing.

Children deserve the love, wisdom, traditions, and emotional security that grandparents bring into their lives.

And grandparents deserve the chance to love their grandchildren without conflict standing in the way.

On Grandparental Alienation Awareness Day, we remember every grandmother and grandfather carrying invisible heartbreak behind closed doors.

Because when a child is separated from loving grandparents, an entire generation of connection is lost.
