The la nina effect!

Winter has set in early in India after a long-drawn monsoon, The first evidence of this came from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, both of which received early snowfall around October 11 and intermittently ever since. 

Leh, where it snows only in peak winter, received snow on October 25. The higher reaches of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh also received snowfall in the last couple of days. Here, snowfall is not uncommon in October but its intensity this time was higher for the period, according to locals.

The sea surface temperatures (SST) over the east and central Pacific Ocean become cooler than average during La Nina effect. This affects the trade winds flowing over the ocean surface through change in wind stress.

The trade winds carry this weather disturbance elsewhere and affect large parts of the world especially Asia

In India, the La Nina is generally responsible for cooler than normal winters and more than normal rainfall. 

The current La Nina event is predicted to continue into next spring (February 2022).

A cooler-than-normal winter and spring can mean there may not be enough warming of the Indian subcontinent, which is crucial for the onset of the southwest monsoon season next year.

In fact every year on an average, the Indian Railways has to spend Rs. 1200 crore and thousands of gallons of water for cleaning the spit stains mainly which are caused by those who consume paan and to***co.

In order to discourage people from spitting in trains and on railway premises, the Indian Railways has come up with a revolutionary solution which will not only help in maintaining cleanliness but will also promote greenery.

The Indian Railways has set up vending machines on 42 stations from which people will be able to purchase a spittoon pouch that will cost in the range of Rs.5- Rs.10.

EzySpit is the startup which has created spittoon pouch and it has signed contracts with the Northern, Western and Central Railways for providing the spittoon pouch.

Spittoon pouches are small in size, easy to carry and can be kept in pockets so it will enable a person to spit anytime he wants without making his surroundings dirty and the good thing about this biodegradable pouch is that it can be reused for around 15-20 times.

However, the best part is that these pouches also have seeds along with the substance which absorbs spit and after use when the pouch is disposed off in mud, new plants will grow.
