Hope you guys are preparing well.
Here are some of the distractions/dilemmas which you may come across.
I also faced these, so sharing with you guys the real experience
Fear/insecurity:
you are not good at coding / you completed your undergrad with so many struggles and now you are fearing what if you don't get your degree or you don't learn to code and don't get a job eventually
I was also in a similar situation, I am very HONEST about this
but somehow I showed courage and SET A VISION, came to the US
I started revising Computer Science concepts along with preparing for GRE.
In the 1st semester, started hanging out with people who are great in coding and machine learning, who are better than me.
Got some confidence in the 2nd semester, showed some courage and took an advanced course in Natural Language Processing. As a result, I got in-depth knowledge of ML, got a research assistantship under professors, completed my Master's with specialization in ML and NLP.
you will be in a situation where you would be rejecting Facebook offer because you have better offers
IF YOU REALLY WANT TO DO SOMETHING, YOU WILL FIND A SAY
OTHERWISE, YOU WILL HAVE REASON ALWAYS.
Mom:
Your mom loves you a lot but at the same time, she might not know much about America.
Your parents could say to you like "you are my only son/daughter", "who will look after you", "there is racism/ gun shooting in America"
My mom also got very emotional about my decision.
She visited me last year and I have seen her that happy in my entire life
She wore jeans for the 1st time in life, danced at NASA's light game
SHE CRIED IN 2016 AND SHE CRIED IN 2020 BUT THIS TIME IT WAS TEARS OF PRIDE
DAD:
Your dad loves you too but might not know much about America:
At one point my dad asked me if I am sure that I want to go to America? He told me that he can help me in buying a house and a car here in India and I can have a lavish lifestyle
After visiting me in 2020 when he returned back to India. He still bragged so much about USA and myself with some e people as he knew it is worth bragging
Employer/Manager:
At this point, your manager could distract you by increasing your salary/ giving you an onsite project
I was also given an onsite project for Amsterdam by my manager when I made this decision.
Today I feel so good that I did not choose that option. Life is much better here.
Baseless distraction:
You will not get Indian food here.
We get everything here. Many non-Indian cuisines are delicious too
VISA Fear:
Come here. experience it and then compare and make a decision. We can always go back to India as it is our home country
you may not be very successful but you will definitely be 100 times better by coming here than you not coming here.
If you are doing what you have been doing, you will get what you have gotten.
Overcome your fear guys!
Be ready to change
You can do it for sure!
