March 31, 2026, is actually Mahavir Jayanti! It is one of the most significant festivals in Jainism, celebrating the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira, the 24th and last Tirthankara (spiritual teacher).
Since you are in Bihar, this day holds even deeper local roots—Lord Mahavira was born in Kundagrama (modern-day Vaishali district) and attained Nirvana in Pawapuri, both right here in your home state.

There is a bit of a rare celestial twist this year with a Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) occurring tomorrow, March 3rd. Because of this, many are choosing to light the sacred bonfire today to avoid the "Sutak" (inauspicious period) that precedes an eclipse.

Since the Lunar Eclipse starts tomorrow morning (around 6:23 AM on March 3), the Sutak period effectively makes Tuesday evening unsuitable for the bonfire in many traditions. Most communities are celebrating "Chhoti Holi" tonight so they can play with colors (Rangwali Holi) on Wednesday, March 4th.
