Your favorite Book
Introduction : Books have great
importance in our life.They are our best friends. They give us pleasure, satisfaction and knowledge. They provide us the
best company.They are the store
house of Knowledge, wisdom and pleasure.
Name and about the book: I read all kinds of books notably fiction,
non-fiction, plays and poems. I read them for both enjoyment and
knowledge. But from among the books that I have read, there
are a few books that stand out to be my favourite ones. One such
book is Dr. Bhabendra Nath
Saikia's famous novel Antareep.
Antareep relates the story of Mahikanta who owns a rice mill.
He is fairly rich and proud. His attitute towards life is very much
materialistic. He sees his wife Menaka as a mere accessory in the house, like his horse-drawn 'buggy'.
One day Mahikanta met a pretty girl named Kiron. Her father was very poor and very often depended on Mohikanta for petty favours. Mohikanta kept his escapades with Kiron a secret from Menaka. Likewise, he did not let her know that he
had finalized wedding arrangements with Kiron. Only a few days before the wedding did Menaka come to know of the
wedding arrangements.
The novel is actually about Menaka. Her revolt against her
husband's behaviour by associating herself with Madan, makes her character daring. Through her, the novelist attempts to resolve a major social problem the problem of the way-ward
husband.
Conclusion : Over all, I liked the message that has been given to us by Dr. Bhabemdra. The message is that the society should give equal rights and value to woman like as man.
