Japanese Company Wants To Send Robots To The Moon For Solar Energy Farming
To many people, the Earth’s moon is something of a mystery as it only shows itself once the sun sets and is responsible for the sea’s currents. But one Japanese company is looking to the moon to point a giant laser at our planet as a way to provide us with clean, renewable energy. The Shimizu Corporation wants to send a team of robots to the moon in order to build the giant laser, which will be pointed at Earth. Shimizu Corporation hopes to solve many of the issues companies and ordinary people have come across when attempting to rely on solar energy as we tend to miss out on precious energy when clouds cover the sun or when the rotation of the earth doesn’t make sucking up the sun’s rays optimal. Shimizu Corporation is proposing to build a massive solar energy center on the moon, which is being called the Luna Ring. The Luna Ring would be a 249-mile wide belt of solar panels that would surround the moon’s 11,000-kilometer-long equator. The Luna Ring would be able to supply 13,000 terawatts of power, according to Shimizu Corporation. Such a large project will require the use of robots, which Shimizu says will be used for on-site construction as well as mining a portion of the moon in order to build the necessary building materials needed for the project.
