๐Ÿ“ข Experiential Learning at Livestock Farm Complex, BHU
It gives me immense pride to share the success story of our (Batch 2021-22) at the Livestock Farm Complex, Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, BHU, Banaras Hindu University - Varanasi.
Through a 360ยฐ experiential learning programme, our interns gained hands-on exposure to diverse facets of livestock farm management. Their training encompassed small ruminant production, clinical diagnosis and treatment of common farm conditions, routine deworming and immunisation, as well as post-mortem examinations that strengthened their diagnostic skills.
On the farm management front, the interns actively engaged in newborn care of Black Bengal goat kids (including twins and triplets), pre- and post-partum dam management, growth monitoring, biometry, and nutritional practices such as colostrum feeding and starter feed preparation. They also contributed to grazing management, biosecurity, record keeping, and sale of livestock.
Equally important was their interaction with visiting farmers, which helped them understand the real needs of the farming community and reinforced the significance of extension activities. Collaborative work with allied departments further honed their soft skills, preparing them to be professionally competent and future-ready veterinarians.
This initiative truly reflects FVAS, I.Ag.Scs., RGSC-BHU commitment to bridging classroom learning with ground realities, ensuring that our graduates emerge as skilled professionals ready to serve society.
