In a landmark achievement, doctors from Pediatric Department, BYL Nair Hospital, successfully facilitated the first pediatric liver transplant for a Nair patient. Baby Iqra, diagnosed with biliary atresia at 4 months and suffering from advanced liver disease, underwent a high-risk liver transplant at just 11 months of age, weighing only 5.8 kg with associated portal vein atresia.

With guidance from Ped Gastro consultant Dr. Anil Tambe, the child’s father donated a part of his liver in a remarkable act of courage. The transplant, performed with multidisciplinary support at Gleneagles Hospital, was made possible entirely through charitable funding assistance.

Today, Iqra is recovering well and moving towards a healthier future — a testament to teamwork, resilience, and hope.
