MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a medical imaging technique used by doctors to see detailed images of the inside of the human body without surgery. It uses a very strong magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer to create clear pictures of organs, tissues, bones, and the nervous system. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI does not use harmful ionizing radiation, which makes it a safer option for many patients, especially when repeated imaging is required. During an MRI scan, the patient lies on a table that slides into a large tube-shaped machine. The magnetic field temporarily aligns hydrogen atoms in the body, and radio waves disturb this alignment. When the atoms return to their original position, they release signals that are captured and converted into detailed images by a computer. MRI is commonly used to diagnose problems in the brain, spinal cord, joints, heart, muscles, and internal organs, and it is very helpful in detecting tumors, injuries, infections, and neurological disorders. Although the scan is painless, it can be noisy and may take from 15 minutes to over an hour depending on the type of examination. In some cases, doctors use a contrast dye to make certain tissues or blood vessels more visible. Overall, MRI has become an essential tool in modern medicine because it provides highly detailed images that help doctors diagnose diseases early and plan effective treatments.
