اٹھی نگاہ تو اپنے ہی رو بہ رو ہم تھے
زمین آئنہ خانہ تھی چار سو ہم تھے

دنوں کے بعد اچانک تمہارا دھیان آیا
خدا کا شکر کہ اس وقت با وضو ہم تھے

وہ آئینہ تو نہیں تھا پر آئینے سا تھا
وہ ہم نہیں تھے مگر یار ہو بہ ہو ہم تھے

زمیں پہ لڑتے ہوئے آسماں کے نرغے میں
کبھی کبھی کوئی دشمن کبھو کبھو ہم تھے

ہمارا ذکر بھی اب جرم ہو گیا ہے وہاں
دنوں کی بات ہے محفل کی آبرو ہم تھے

خیال تھا کہ یہ پتھراؤ روک دیں چل کر
جو ہوش آیا تو دیکھا لہو لہو ہم تھے
