August 29, is National Sports Day in India because it marks the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, a legendary hockey player who is widely regarded as one of the greatest hockey players of all time.

Report on Seedling Distribution under Project Green Village

Malda College NCC Unit successfully organized a seedling distribution program under the Project Green Village at Agra Harishchandrapur, Block Habibpur, guided by Shri Jiju Jaespher Joseph, DFO, Malda. Cadet Shiba Biswas was appointed as the Village Coordinator. A total of 500 seedlings were distributed among 49 families based on data collected through a detailed door-to-door survey. Cadets Joy Mandal and Prasenjit Roy actively participated in the distribution process. This eco-initiative aims to enhance greenery and environmental awareness in rural areas, reflecting the commitment of NCC towards sustainable development and community welfare.

On the occasion of Van Mahotsav 2025, the Malda College NCC Unit organized a Tree Plantation Programme and a students rally to promote environmental awareness and ecological sustainability. The event took place on the college campus and nearby areas, drawing participation from around 450 students.

The programme was inaugurated in the presence of several notable dignitaries, including:

Shrimati Lipika Barman, Sabhapati, Malda Zilla Parishad

Shri Pradeep Kumar Jadhav (IPS), Superintendent of Police, Malda

Shrimati Sabitri Mitra, MLA of Manickchak

The Dr. Narayan Ch Shaw(Teacher-in-Charge malda college), Abhijit Das(ANO MALDA COLLEGE NCC UNIT),OTHER faculty members, and non-teaching staff of the college

As part of the plantation drive, a total of 75 saplings were planted. These included 50 Jhau trees, 10 Litchi trees, 5 Saal trees, and 10 Mahogany trees, which were generously donated by the Forest Department.

The NCC Unit of Malda College organized a seminar on Education and Social Empowerment on 08.07.25. Dr. Runa Biswas was the keynote speaker, who highlighted the vital role of education in bringing about social change and empowering marginalized communities. She encouraged the students to be responsible citizens and contribute to nation-building through knowledge and awareness. A total of 53 Cadets attended the seminar and actively participated in the discussion. The event was informative and motivating, leaving a lasting impression on the cadets and students. The program concluded with a vote of thanks and appreciation for Dr. Biswas's insights.
