Kachni-Bharni is an artist collective working in the field of Madhubani painting finding
new life for this ancient artform at par with the contemporary.

Kachni-Bharni offers art from the land of Mithila. A group of artists all following an ancient style of painting popularly known as Madhubani/Mithila painting that started on the walls and found new life again on paper with the passage of time. Kachni Bharni is an attempt to bring together artists who are engaged in contemporary expressions derived from personal interactions with this folk style o

Our Recent Mural in Varanasi (2015)

When it comes to wall-murals, the fun of painting just doubles up . Kachni-Bharni is thoroughly enjoying big ones as well as the small ones.
The wall simply stirs the imagination and frees it too. Going up the ladder, squatting on the floor, squeezing the brush into the narrowest of spaces makes the whole process greatly strenuous. But when the work turns out to be good, the artist inside feels a sense of relief mixed with extreme joy erasing all the feelings of strain in producing it.

We are thrilled! But besides likes, we are waiting for comments too as we are a very young group. Your comments and suggestions can really help us in our objectives. We think art truly needs criticism to grow.

Feeling over the moon!
Kachni-Bharni has just finished its inaugural mural project titled "World On The Wall" at Loka, Aurangabad in Bihar. Playing with the giant space on the wall without giving a damn to the scorching heat, the obnoxious summer, we( MAHALAXMI, AVINASH, SHANTANU, DEEPTIMA) made the most of this opportunity. The composition came naturally as nothing was premeditated or preplanned. It just kept evolving out of nowhere. everything from the girl on the moon to another girl dancing in the rain to the solitary yogi in PADMASANA to the snake holding the river, everything happened on its own. We just celebrated the magnitude of the composition against the challenges posed by the nature and the time we had. But we have a feeling we did well. Eight days of painting left us greatly attached with the whole place and the people behind this extraordinary place called LOKA. When we were leaving, there was a feeling we could have added more to the murals . But we simply ran out of time.
but every bit of this project was fun. The interaction with kids, the feast on the last day, the delightful trip to Bodhgaya, the discussions about colours, the search for right shades.. the kids at Loka and even the random visitors took an immediate liking to the forms coming out on the wall. Thanks to Sanat Ji for your friendly approach to our whacky, eccentric jokes. Thanks Charlotte for sweetening our mornings with honey-soaked ice-creams ans shakes. Sanat ji is an embodiment of inexhaustible energy and dedication. This place is thriving and has a great future. And we are happy we too have contributed in our own way . And that is through our Mithila( Madhubani Art).
As a group, it was wonderful to be noticed by an organisation in Bihar where people generally show indifference to their own art and culture.
