A Celebration of Talent and Ideas at SCD Government College: Sabrang

SCD Government College Ludhiana, witnessed a lively and colourful celebration as the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), in collaboration with the Women Development Cell (WDC), organised “Sabrang” under the esteemed guidance of the Principal, Professor Dr Gursharn Jit Singh Sandhu. The event brought together creativity, culture, and meaningful discussions, making it a memorable experience for students and faculty alike.

The programme was graced by former Principal Dr Gurpreet Kaur as the Chief Guest. Vice Principal Dr Poonam Mahajan and other respected faculty members were also present on the occasion. The event began with the presentation of plants and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolising knowledge, positivity, and growth.

The Convener of IIC and WDC, Dr Neelam Bhardwaj, warmly welcomed the guests and shared the purpose behind organising Sabrang. She recited a self-composed poem that beautifully highlighted the importance of women’s education and empowerment. Through her words, she also spoke about the rising presence of women in start-ups and entrepreneurship, encouraging students to think beyond traditional paths and become confident, independent individuals. She further emphasised that co-curricular activities play a key role in shaping a student’s personality by building creativity, confidence, and teamwork.

The cultural segment of the programme was the highlight of the event. Students presented a variety of performances including poetry recitation, singing, dance, and other creative acts. Each performance reflected the enthusiasm and talent of the students and kept the audience engaged throughout.

The event also included a felicitation ceremony, where students and council members were honoured with certificates and mementoes for their dedication and contributions during the academic session 2025–26. Advisor Pranav Sood, President Diksha Sharma, Vice President Chanchal, Student Coordinators Sukhmanjot Kaur and Yuvraj Yadav, Secretary Bhavik Mahajan, Joint Secretaries Kritika Handa and Amritpreet Singh, and other members were recognised for their efforts.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Dr Gurpreet Kaur, spoke about the importance of student life and encouraged students to use this time to grow, learn, and build confidence. She also shared her views on women’s empowerment, stating that while women today are becoming independent and successful in fields like business and start-ups, the support and encouragement of men continue to play an important role in their journey. She highlighted that mutual respect and cooperation between men and women are essential for true progress. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Advisor Pranav Sood, who expressed gratitude to the guests, faculty, and students for their support in making the event successful. Overall, Sabrang 2025–26 was a wonderful celebration of talent, ideas, and unity, leaving behind a sense of pride and inspiration among everyone present.

Farewell Party Organised by the Postgraduate Hindi Department and Research Centre of SCD Government College, Ludhiana

The Postgraduate Hindi Department and Research Centre of Satish Chandra Dhawan Government College, Ludhiana organized a grand farewell party. The Chief Guest of the program was Professor Dr. Gursharn Jit Singh Sandhu (Principal), and the Distinguished Guest was Dr. Gurpreet Kaur. The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
Head of the Department, Dr. Saurabh Kumar, warmly welcomed and felicitated the Chief Guest, Distinguished Guest, and other esteemed guests along with faculty members from various departments.
The farewell ceremony was organized by the first-year Hindi students in honor of their senior classmates. On this occasion, various cultural performances such as Saraswati Vandana, classical dance, music, poetry recitation, and group dance were presented. The modeling competition was the main attraction of the event, in which Ms. Deepa was declared "Miss Farewell" and Raghav Sharma was declared "Mr. Farewell."
On this occasion, all members and office bearers of the Hindi Sahitya Parishad (2025–26) were honored for their significant contributions in successfully conducting various departmental activities throughout the year. They were presented with mementos as a token of appreciation.
In addition, meritorious students who performed excellently in Panjab University examinations were also honored, including Uma (First Position), Ritika (Second Position), Raveena (Third Position), and Poonam (Second Position). Furthermore, Amandeep Kaur, who secured a gold medal in the M.A. Hindi (Session 2023–25) examination of Panjab University, was specially honored for her academic excellence.
On this occasion, the Principal, Professor Dr. Gursharn Jit Singh Sandhu, appreciated the farewell event organized by the Hindi Department and stated that the program was rich in cultural activities and highly inspiring from the perspective of showcasing students' talents. He remarked that the first-year students had organized this event with great dedication and hard work for their seniors, which is highly commendable.
He congratulated the meritorious students and added that the Hindi Department remains committed to preserving its traditions and culture. The faculty members and students are devotedly working in this direction. He further stated that the students of the department are not only academically excellent but also exhibit discipline, strong values, and refined behavior, which gives them a distinct identity in the college.
In conclusion, he congratulated the first-year Hindi students and the faculty members for the successful program of the event and appreciated their efforts.
The successful of the program was made possible with the significant contributions of faculty members including Dr. Monika Jain, Dr. Sondeep, and Prof. Inderjit Paswan.

NSS Unit Organizes Valedictory and Felicitation Ceremony

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Satish Chandra Dhawan Government College, Ludhiana, organized a grand valedictory and felicitation ceremony today. The Principal of the college, Professor (Dr.) Gursharn Jit Singh Sandhu, along with Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, was specially present and awarded the students. The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana, creating an atmosphere of dignity and cultural elegance. Thereafter, students showcased their creativity and artistic skills, making the program lively and engaging.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Program Officer Dr. Saurabh Kumar delivered the welcome address and presented a detailed report of all activities conducted during the financial year 2025–26. He highlighted the achievements of the NSS unit throughout the year and acknowledged all the volunteers who attained notable accomplishments at various levels.
Subsequently, the felicitation ceremony was held, in which special recognition was given to those volunteers who represented the NSS unit of the college at the national level and established a distinct identity through their active participation in various national programs.

In this sequence, Anisha Rai Chauhan was honored for participating in the Republic Day Parade 2026 (New Delhi). Rajan Preet Singh Bains was felicitated for his active participation in the National Youth Parliament and the National Youth Festival – Viksit Bharat Young Leader Dialogue 2026. Similarly, Mohammad Anas, Harshdeep Singh, Ankit Mishra, Vivek Roy, Harjot Singh, and Jashanjeet Singh were awarded mementos for their participation in the National Youth Parliament. In the same manner, Raksha, Dhruv, Akashdeep, and Rahul Gupta were honored for successfully completing the National Adventure Training Camp organized at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (ABVIMAS).
Along with this, all NSS council members and volunteers who contributed throughout the year were also honored. From the boys’ unit, Sujal and his team, and from the girls’ unit, Aarti and her team were felicitated with mementos. They demonstrated excellent coordination, dedication, and responsibility while successfully organizing various activities throughout the year. As ideal students, they actively participated in social service alongside their academic pursuits and fulfilled their social responsibilities effectively.

On this occasion, Principal Professor (Dr.) Gursharn Jeet Singh Sandhu, in his motivational address, stated that NSS volunteers are truly engaged in social service while maintaining discipline in their education and are embodying the NSS motto “Not Me, But You.” He expressed confidence that these volunteers will not only achieve success in their personal lives but will also emerge as valuable assets to society and play a significant role in the nation’s progress.
He further added that the NSS unit of the college remains highly active and dedicated throughout the year in fulfilling its responsibilities. The Program Officers also remain consistently proactive in guiding students, ensuring their holistic development and helping them grow into responsible citizens.

NSS volunteers also presented vibrant cultural performances. Students showcased their talents through dance, songs, music, bhangra, group dance, and poetry recitations. At the end of the program, Dr. Devina Ghai (Convener, NSS Girls) delivered the vote of thanks and formally announced the conclusion of the financial year 2025–26.

On this occasion, faculty members including Prof Dinesh Kumar, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Prof. Amandeep Kaur, Dr. Harjinder Kaur, along with Professor Satnam Singh, Prof. Neeraj Kumar, Prof. Sunita, Prof. Arun Kumar, and Mr. Sanjay Dutt were also present. NSS Unit Celebrates Ambedkar Jayanti with Enthusiasm and Inspiration

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Satish Chandra Dhawan Government College, Ludhiana, celebrated the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar with great enthusiasm and reverence. The primary objective of the event was to remember the remarkable contributions of Dr. Ambedkar and to spread his ideas and ideals among students, which continue to guide society towards equality, justice, and fraternity. The program witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers, making it highly impactful and inspiring.

On this occasion, the Principal of the college, Professor (Dr.) Gursharn Jit Singh Sandhu, graced the event as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Gurpreet Kaur attended as the Guest of Honour. Their gracious presence enhanced the dignity of the program. In his address, Principal Dr. Sandhu highlighted the unparalleled contributions of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and stated that his life and ideology will always remain a source of inspiration for society. He encouraged students to imbibe the values of equality, education, and social responsibility in their lives.
To make the event more meaningful, the NSS unit organized a lecture on the topic “Dr. B. R. Ambedkar: Philosophy of Life and Teaching.” In this session, Prof. Satnam Singh and Prof. Neeraj Kumar participated as speakers and guided the students through their insightful thoughts. A First Aid Training Session was successfully organized by the Red Cross Society (RCS) of SCD Government College, Ludhiana, on 10 April 2026 at 11:00 AM in the New Seminar Hall. The session aimed to spread awareness among students regarding basic life-saving techniques and emergency response.
The training session was conducted by Mrs. Savneet Kaur, Lecturer at the Red Cross Society, Ludhiana, who shared valuable knowledge about first aid practices, including CPR, handling injuries, and emergency care. The session was highly interactive and informative, enabling students to understand the importance of timely medical assistance.
The event was organized under the guidance and supervision of the respected Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Gursharanjit Singh Sandhu, whose constant support and encouragement made the event a grand success.
The program was efficiently coordinated by RCS Convener Prof. Sunita, along with Vanita Mam and Rajkamal Mam, whose dedicated efforts ensured the smooth ex*****on of the seminar.
A large number of students attended the seminar and actively participated in demonstrations, making the session engaging and impactful. The session concluded with a formal valedictory note, where the President, Bhavik Mahajan, and the Vice President, Mohit, along with all Council members, were honoured for their dedicated services. Mehfil-e-Rukhsat
Organized by the PG Department of Commerce and Business Innovation

The PG Department of Commerce and Business Innovation organized a grand farewell ceremony titled Mehfil-e-Rukhsat on 10th April , 2026 to bid a warm and memorable farewell to the final-year students of M.Com (General) and Business Innovation. The event was graciously presided over by the esteemed Principal, Prof. Dr. Gursharnjit Singh Sandhu, along with the First Lady of the college and former Principal, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Sandhu. The program commenced with a floral welcome of the distinguished guests as a mark of respect and appreciation, followed by a formal address by the Head of the Department, Dr. Neelam Bhardwaj.

The program began with a serene Ganesh Vandana, invoking blessings for the success of the event, and was followed by a variety of cultural performances showcasing the creativity and enthusiasm of the students. The event featured Modelling Round One, followed by group dance, poetry recitation, Punjabi dance, and singing performances. Modelling Round Two included a question-and-answer session that evaluated the participants’ confidence, presence of mind, and awareness of mental well-being. The second half of the program included Bollywood dance, singing performances, and an energetic bhangra performance, adding vibrancy to the event.

The ceremony also included the prize distribution of the Commerce Council of Students (CCS), recognizing students for their achievements. The highlight of the event was the announcement of the modelling results. From M.Com Business Innovation, Ishan was awarded the title of Mr. Farewell, Nandini was crowned Miss Farewell, Mansimrat received the title of Style Icon, Pawan was honored with the Million Dollar Smile title, and Jaanjeet was recognized as Trend Setter. From M.Com General, Vikas was awarded Mr. Farewell and Bimmy was crowned Ms. Farewell, while Khushneet received the title of Miss Showstopper, Manisha was honored as Miss Elite Walk, and Prathna was awarded the title of Miss Diva.

A special moment of gratitude was marked when the students presented a token of appreciation to the Principal and expressed their heartfelt thanks by presenting gifts to all faculty members. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by senior representative Ishan Bansal and junior representative Deepali, expressing sincere gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, organizers, and participants. The ceremony was also graced by the presence of respected faculty members including Dr. Aarsi Sandhu, Prof. Rupinder Kaur, Prof. Geetika Verma, Prof. Geetika Talwar, Dr. Amanpreet Kaur, Prof. Alka, Prof. Charanjeet Kaur, and Prof. Arun Kumar, Prof.Dinesh, Prof.Nidhi, Prof. Parminder Kaur.

Overall, Mehfil-e-Rukhsat was a memorable and emotional occasion that celebrated achievements, strengthened bonds, and marked the beginning of a new journey for the graduating students.

World Health Day Celebrated at Satish Chandra Dhawan Government College, Ludhiana

The NSS unit of Satish Chandra Dhawan Government College, Ludhiana celebrated World Health Day with great enthusiasm today. The program was organized under the guidance of the college Principal, Professor (Dr.) Gursharn Jit Singh Sandhu. On this occasion, Program Officer Dr. Saurabh Kumar addressed the NSS volunteers and conducted an important awareness session on health.
The event featured Prof. Neeraj Kumar from the Department of Botany as the keynote speaker. Addressing the volunteers, he explained how we can take better care of our health through small positive habits and awareness in our daily lives. He emphasized that a healthy body is the most valuable asset in our life, and it is essential to take preventive measures in advance. He further stated that awareness about health-related issues helps in avoiding future physical problems.
Prof. Neeraj Kumar also answered several queries of the volunteers, helping to develop a better understanding and awareness about health among the students. The NSS unit expressed gratitude to the guest speaker by presenting him with a plant sapling. More than 70 NSS volunteers actively participated in the program.

Red Ribbon Club Valedictory Ceremony (2025–26)

The Red Ribbon Club organized the Valedictory Ceremony for the session 2025–26 with great enthusiasm and discipline.

The event commenced with a warm welcome of the Principal, Prof. Dr. Gursharnjit Singh Ji, by presenting a living memento as a token of sustainability, symbolizing environmental responsibility.

Following this, the Principal facilitated all the council members for their dedicated service. On the same occasion, Jashanjeet Singh was honored with the “Best Volunteer” award for his exceptional contribution.

The program then proceeded with the presentation of the Annual Report by Jashanjeet Singh (Peer Educator, RRC), highlighting the key activities and achievements of the session.

This was followed by informative speeches on AIDS awareness and drug prevention delivered by Rajanpreet Singh Bains, Harjot Singh, Mantasha, Anjali, and Harshdeep Singh.

After that, members shared their experiences and journey in the Red Ribbon Club, presented by Rajanpreet Singh Bains, Vivek, Mantasha, and Harpreet Singh Hans.

A thought-provoking skit titled “Supneyan Di Sale” was then performed by Avi Sher Gill, conveying a strong social message.

Following this, the winners of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day were felicitated: 🥇 Ashmeet Kaur (M.Sc. I.T.)

Finally, Dr. Reena Dhanda officially announced the closing of the session 2025–26, appreciating the efforts of the entire team.

Fusion 2026: PG Department of English Hosts Fresher-cum-Farewell Celebration

Ludhiana, April 4 — The PG Department of English, SCD Government College, Ludhiana, organised a fresher-cum-farewell event titled Fusion 2026 for M.A. English students on Saturday. Held under the guidance of Head of Department Prof. Amita Thaman, the programme brought together both batches in a shared celebration marking beginnings and transitions.

The event commenced with a graceful Ganesh Vandana by Shruti Kalia, setting an auspicious tone. This was followed by a vibrant modelling segment in which students from both batches displayed confidence and flair, engaging the audience of faculty and peers. The programme continued with a series of performances, including music, dance, games, and interactive segments, maintaining a lively atmosphere throughout. Students and faculty participated with equal enthusiasm, reinforcing a sense of community within the department.

A key highlight of the event was the announcement of titles. Among the awardees, Ms. Fresher Tanisha and Mr. Fresher Harpreet Hans were recognised for their confident presence, while Ms. Farewell Harneet Kaur and Mr. Farewell Kushal Malhotra marked a fitting culmination of their journey in the department. Other titles included Ms. Charming Smile Ameek Kaur, Ms. Runway Tezal, Ms. Gorgeous Anisha Rai Chauhan, Ms. Photogenic Visage Khushi, Miss Congeniality Vanita, and Luscious Locks Harsh*ta, while Mr. Handsome Paramvir Singh was also honoured.

The event was compered by Jiya and Tanisha, who ensured a smooth flow of proceedings. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Harneet Kaur, President of the English Literary Council. Members of the Council and other outstanding students were felicitated by Principal Prof. (Dr) Gursharn Jit Singh Sandhu.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Prof. Sandhu appreciated the efforts of the department and praised the students for their enthusiastic participation. The HoD Prof. Amita Thaman reflected on the academic journey of the outgoing batch while also welcoming the new students, emphasising the importance of such occasions in fostering connection and continuity.

Prof. Mandeep Kaur Wins Prestigious National Literary Award

Prof. Mandeep Aulakh, Assistant Professor in the Postgraduate Department of English, SCD Government College, Ludhiana has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2025 for her Punjabi poetry collection Girls Hostel — one of India's most coveted literary honors for young writers.
The award was formally presented at a ceremony in New Delhi by the Sahitya Akademi, India's national academy of letters. Prof. Aulakh's selection had been announced last year, drawing widespread acclaim from literary circles and the academic community alike.
Principal Professor (Dr.) Gursharn jit Singh Sandhu Ji lauded her achievement, saying she embodies the rare combination of an inspiring educator and a socially conscious writer. "Through her teaching and her pen, she is shaping a more aware and sensitive generation," he said.
Girls Hostel has been praised for its unflinching portrayal of young women's lives, cementing Prof. Aulakh's place among the most promising voices in contemporary Punjabi literature.

Power point Presentation competition organised by Chemistry Department

A power point Presentation competition was successfully conducted at SCD Govt. College ludhiana by chemistry department with the objective of enhancing students’ scientific knowledge and promoting innovative thinking in the field of chemistry.
The event featured insightful presentations by students on various important topics such as recent advancements in chemical sciences, environmental chemistry, green chemistry, and applications of chemistry in daily life. The participants demonstrated excellent understanding, research skills, and presentation abilities.
The program was graced by Principal Dr. Gursharnjit Singh sandhu, Dr. Poonam Mahajan, HOD (chemistry department), Judges Dr. Nitin Sood, Dr. Monica Arora, Ms. Hina Rani. They appreciated the efforts of the students and emphasized the importance of chemistry in solving real-world problems. Faculty members also provided valuable feedback and encouraged students to pursue research-oriented learning.
