When I first entered a courtroom after obtaining my law degree, I was confronted with a harsh reality — I was unprepared. The textbooks I had studied did not provide me with the necessary skills to draft a basic objection. I lacked a clear understanding of how courts functioned. Additionally, I struggled with confidence, drafting, and felt like an outsider, observing seniors argue cases while I waited in the corridor, wondering if I belonged there. Furthermore, I was not earning any income, which had a significant emotional impact. I had followed the traditional path, completing law school and passing exams, but no one had prepared me for the realities of legal practice. Nobody warns you that litigation can take years to generate a stable income, that seniors are often too busy to provide guidance, and that law firms prioritize skills over academic credentials. Moreover, the line between struggle and success is often blurred, and practical preparation is the key to success. Like many of you, I questioned my abilities and considered quitting. Moreover, survival is crucial, as litigation can be a lengthy process. Therefore, it is essential for law students to develop a side income, and freelancing is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. To succeed, you need to acquire skills such as drafting contracts and documents for real clients, building a portfolio that showcases your value, and earning a steady income while preparing for litigation, LLM, or job opportunities.
