The 10th Canto of the Srimad Bhagavat Purana is regarded as the most significant portion of the entire scripture, as it is devoted exclusively to the life and divine pastimes of Lord Krishna. It narrates His appearance, His childhood in Vraja, His youthful activities, and His later pastimes in Mathura and Dwaraka. This manuscript also includes the revered commentary of Sridhar Swami. Although it is not complete, its rarity makes it a highly valuable addition to the BRC’s manuscript collection.

Sundarananda Vidyavinode Collection, which preserves the personal book collection of Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupāda

We are delighted to share a rare gem from our collections: Chandidaser Padavali, authored by Sriyukta Nilratan Mukhopadhyay (Editor) and published in 1312 Bangabda.
Chandida's Padavali, edited by Nilratan Mukhopadhyay, outlines the editor's personal connection to Vaishnava devotional music and his motivation for compiling the work. The central theme of Chandidas's poems is the love story of Radha and Krishna, particularly the profound feelings of separation, pre-love, affection, tryst, separation in Mathura, and lamentation; where a deep synthesis of human emotions and divine love has taken place, which is an integral part of Vaishnava poetry. In his poems, the love of Radha and Krishna is depicted with simplicity, sincerity, and intense emotion, where love is described as a spiritual feeling mixed with the pain of separation, which takes the reader into a world of profound emotions.
This treasured volume stands as a testament to the scholarly depth and spiritual heritage cherished by our ācāryas. Through such preservation, the Bhaktivedanta Research Center continues its mission to protect and share the timeless wisdom of our tradition.

🌸 Gaudīya Vaiṣṇava Abhidhāna Online Series 🌸
The Vaishnava Abhidhāna of Śrī Haridāsa Dāsa (1898–1957) is a remarkable treasury of Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava tradition, preserving the lives, works, and contributions of countless saints and scholars. The Bhaktivedanta Research Center has now brought this monumental reference work online, making it easily accessible to seekers, researchers, and readers worldwide. 🌍
To celebrate this timeless contribution, every week we will share one entry from the Abhidhāna—inviting you to journey deeper into the spiritual, cultural, and historical richness of the Vaiṣṇava world. ✨
🔖 Today’s Entry
Category: Charitāvalī (Books)
Name of Entry: Ujjvalanīlamaṇi
Ujjvalanīlamaṇi, composed by Śrī Rūpa Gosvāmī, is the definitive Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava treatise on the science of mādhurya-rasa, illuminating the supreme sweetness of Śrī Kṛṣṇa as the embodiment of all transcendental rasa. Regarded as the natural continuation and culmination of Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu, this work systematically reveals the inner world of gopī-bhajana, teaching that true worship of Govinda unfolds only through loving adherence to the mood of the Vraja-gopīs. Through profound analysis and poetic clarity, Śrī Rūpa portrays the intense longing, attraction, separation, and union experienced by the gopīs, presenting their love as the highest revelation of divine devotion. The text meticulously classifies nāyakas, nāyikās, sakhīs, dūtīs, bhāvas, and rasas, demonstrating how mādhurya-rati matures into prema, sneha, māna, anurāga, bhāva, and ultimately mahābhāva—fully manifest only in Śrī Rādhā. Ujjvala-nīlamaṇi establishes that vipralambha (loving separation) is the very heart of Gauḍīya devotional practice, reaching its supreme expression in Śrī Gaurāṅga’s own līlā. With its 1,453 verses and authoritative commentaries by Śrī Jīva Gosvāmī, Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura, and others, the work stands as a veritable Veda of Gauḍīya rasa-śāstra. Read with devotion and proper guidance, Ujjvala-nīlamaṇi opens a radiant window into the highest contemplative service of Vraja-rasa, where theology and divine love merge in unsurpassed sweetness.
