Data collection is a vital step in social science research, traditionally done using pen-and-paper methods. In recent years, technological innovations have transformed this process.
These digital data collection tools reduce time spent on data entry, allow real-time quality checks, and enable quick analysis through dashboards.
To this end, Pratichi (India) Trust conducted a two-day training workshop on “Data Collection Using Kobo Toolbox” on 24–25 April 2026 at the Amartya Sen Research Centre, Salt Lake.
Around 30 participants from diverse backgrounds—including school and college teachers, government officials, researchers, research scholars, students, and NGO workers—took part in the workshop.
The objectives of the workshop were:
-To enable the participants to design, deploy, and manage digital surveys using Kobo Toolbox and Kobo Collect
-To create and test forms with question logic, groups and repeats
-To configure Kobo Collect for offline data collection
-To export, clean, visualise data and prepare basic reports.
-To discuss best practices for field operations, quality control, and data handling.
We hope for more participation in our future workshops to strengthen the organs of social research.
We will be posting our upcoming workshop information on our page.
