๐ŸŒฑ Educational Visit to Emami Legacy Centre, Kolkata ๐ŸŒฑ

The Department of Microbiology & Biotechnology, Sister Nivedita University organized an educational visit to the Emami Legacy Centre, Kolkata, on 13th and 14th August 2026.

Students of Semester 7 from the Departments of Biotechnology and Microbiology participated in the visit, accompanied by faculty members from both departments.

The visit provided students with an opportunity to gain practical exposure beyond the classroom, connect their academic learning with real-world applications, and enhance their understanding through experiential learning.

Such industry- and institution-oriented visits play an important role in developing students' professional outlook and preparing them for future opportunities in Microbiology and Biotechnology. ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿงฌ

We thank the faculty members and students for making the visit a meaningful and enriching learning experience.

We are delighted to share that Mr. Barsho Roy, a B.Sc. Microbiology Semester VII student from the Department of Microbiology, Sister Nivedita University, has successfully completed a 2-month research internship at the prestigious School of Medical Science and Technology (SMST), IIT Kharagpur.

During his internship, Barsho gained valuable hands-on research experience, advanced laboratory training, and the opportunity to present his research findings under the expert guidance of Dr. Nishant Chakravorty. This experience has strengthened his scientific knowledge, technical skills, and research aptitude.

What if the future of meat production didn't rely on traditional farming? Cellular agriculture is transforming the way we think about food by producing meat directly from animal cells in controlled bioreactors. ๐Ÿ”ฌ Research Spotlight | Showcasing Research. Inspiring Innovation.

Congratulations to Dr. Asis Kumar Jana, Assistant Professor Grade-III, Department of Biotechnology, Sister Nivedita University, on his recent research publication:

"Stability and Dynamics of the N-Terminal Domain of TDP-43 and the Effect of Point Mutations"

TDP-43 is a critical protein implicated in several neurodegenerative disorders, including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). In this study, long-timescale all-atom molecular dynamics simulations were employed to investigate how specific point mutations influence the structural stability of the N-terminal domain (NTD) of TDP-43.

๐Ÿงฌ Key Findings:
โœ… The wild-type NTD and the L27A mutant remain structurally stable.
โœ… The L28A mutation destabilizes the protein by disrupting tertiary interactions and exposing hydrophobic residues.
โœ… The CHARMM36m force field demonstrated greater structural stability than CHARMM36mW, providing deeper insights into the molecular mechanisms governing TDP-43 function and pathological aggregation.

This work advances our understanding of protein misfolding and aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases and highlights the power of molecular simulations in biomedical research.
