স্বপ্নটা বোনা শুরু হয়েছিল ২০২১-এর দিকে। বন্ধুদের দীর্ঘ আড্ডা আর অসংখ্য আলোচনার মধ্য দিয়ে অবশেষে ২০২২ সালে যাত্রা শুরু করে প্রেসিডেন্সি ইউনিভার্সিটি ফিল্ম সোসাইটি।

সোসাইটির শুরুর দিকের সবচেয়ে স্মরণীয় মুহূর্তগুলোর একটি ছিল অনীক দত্ত স্যারের উপস্থিতি। অপরাজিত মুক্তির পর আমরা আয়োজন করেছিলাম এক বিশেষ আলোচনা সভা— “‘পথের পাঁচালী–১৯৫৫’ থেকে ‘অপরাজিত–২০২২’... জন্মশতবর্ষে সত্যজিৎ রায় ও আমরা”। সেদিন শুধু একজন পরিচালকের সঙ্গে দেখা হয়নি, পরিচয় হয়েছিল এমন একজন মানুষের সঙ্গে, যিনি সিনেমাকে শুধু পর্দায় নয়, চিন্তায় ও চর্চায় বাঁচিয়ে রাখতেন!

শুধু একজন চলচ্চিত্র পরিচালক হিসেবেই নয়, একজন পথপ্রদর্শক হিসেবেও তিনি আমাদের পাশে ছিলেন। কীভাবে একটি ফিল্ম সোসাইটি এগিয়ে নিয়ে যেতে হয়, কীভাবে সিনেমাকে কেন্দ্র করে মানুষকে ভাবতে শেখানো যায়, কীভাবে একটা জায়গাকে শুধু অনুষ্ঠান নয়, একটা সংস্কৃতিতে পরিণত করা যায়— এসব নিয়েও তিনি আমাদের আন্তরিকভাবে পরামর্শ দিয়েছিলেন।

অনীক দত্ত শুধু একজন পরিচালক নন, তিনি ছিলেন এক নির্ভীক কণ্ঠস্বর। ক্ষমতার সামনে মাথা নত না করে, নিজের বিশ্বাসে অবিচল থেকে, শিরদাঁড়া সোজা রেখে সত্য বলার সাহস দেখিয়ে গেছেন তিনি।

আজ একজন মানুষকে নয়, একটা কণ্ঠস্বরকে হারানোর শূন্যতা অনুভব হচ্ছে।

Celebrating the legend Al Pacino on his birthday—a man whose presence on screen redefined intensity and vulnerability in equal measure. From the quiet menace of Michael Corleone in The Godfather to the explosive charisma of Tony Montana in Scarface, Pacino has given cinema some of its most unforgettable performances. Decades on, his craft remains as magnetic as ever—a testament to an artist who doesn’t just act, but transforms every role into something iconic!!

On the 6th of April, the Presidency University Film Society hosted a discussion on “Exploring the Realities, Challenges, and Creative Spirit of Independent Filmmaking.” Bringing together the distinguished voices of film direction- Ranjan Ghosh, Jayabrata Das, Debasish Sen Sharma, Amitabha Chaterji and actor Amit Saha- the session unfolded as a space of reflection and exchange, tracing the quiet rigour and imagination that sustain independent filmmaking.
Here are a few glimpses from this engaging and insightful gathering.

Today we celebrate what would have been Kurosawa's 116th birthday. The maestro himself may be gone for many years, but his legacy will never fade away. The world is a mad place right now, but maybe you'll find moments of clarity or inner peace, if you watch some his works, at least temporarily. Please take good care of yourselves and everyone around you.

জীবনে কী পাবো না ভুলেছি সে ভাবনা"- শুনে কোমর দুলিয়ে ওঠেনি বা পাঞ্জাবির ওপর চাদর জড়িয়ে নিজেকে ফেলুদা ঠাওড়ায়নি এমন বাঙালি পাওয়া ভার। সেই বাঙালির আবেগের প্রতীকের ৯১তম জন্মদিবসে অশেষ শ্রদ্ধা।

প্রেসিডেন্সি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ফিল্ম সোসাইটি ও বাংলা ডিপার্টমেন্টের তরফ থেকে ঋত্বিক ঘটকের জন্মশতবর্ষ উপলক্ষ্যে এই বুধবার ১৯ এ নভেম্বর একটি আলোচনা সভার আয়োজন করা হচ্ছে। আলোচনার বিষয়বস্তু: চলচ্চিত্রের অন্তঃস্বর-স্বল্পচিত্র ও তথ্যচিত্রে ঋত্বিকের অন্বেষণ। বক্তা হিসেবে থাকবেন ফিল্ম স্কলার সুপ্রিয় সেন, চলচ্চিত্র পরিচালক কমলেশ্বর মুখার্জি, অভিনেতা অনিন্দ্য ব্যানার্জী ও প্রেসিডেন্সি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বাংলা বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ঋতম্ মুখার্জি। সকলকে আসার আমন্ত্রণ রইল। তাহলে দেখা হচ্ছে ১৯ এ নভেম্বর দুপুর ২:১৫ তে, এ.কে. বসাক অডিটোরিয়ামে।

On his birthday, we celebrate the man whose films feel like electric currents running through the veins of cinema. His stories crackle with urgency, his characters breathe with raw honesty, and his vision has shaped generations of movie lovers and makers alike. Few artists can turn chaos into clarity, or violence into poetry, the way Scorsese does. Here’s to the legend who keeps pushing the boundaries of storytelling, one unforgettable frame at a time!!
