Report on One-Day Educational Visit to Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute
A one-day educational visit was successfully conducted today at Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute, Thakurpukur, jointly organized by the Department of Food and Nutrition and the Department of Chemistry of Hiralal Mazumdar Memorial College for Women, Dakshineswar.
The visit was attended by the 5th Semester Food and Nutrition Major students, accompanied by faculty members from both departments. The objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to hospital-based nutrition services, clinical dietetics practices, laboratory functioning, cancer research activities, and institutional procedures related to patient care and treatment.
During the visit, students received valuable insights from the hospital’s expert team. They were taken through various departments such as dietetics, oncology units, diagnostic laboratories, and research sections. Special emphasis was given to understanding the role of nutrition in cancer management, food service operations in clinical settings, and the scientific approaches that support patient recovery.
This educational visit enriched the academic experience of the students by bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world applications. The joint initiative with the Department of Chemistry further strengthened interdisciplinary understanding, offering students a broader perspective on clinical and analytical practices within modern healthcare.
The tour concluded with an interactive session, allowing students to ask questions and clarify their doubts, which further deepened their understanding of the holistic systems followed in the hospital. The visit proved highly informative and motivating for all participants.
