Report on Gender Sensitisation Programme

The Women’s Cell and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) jointly organised a Gender Sensitisation Programme on Sexual Harassment, Violence & Legal Rights on 26 September 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at Suniti Sabhaghar. The programme aimed to create awareness about gender equality, prevention of sexual harassment and violence, and the legal rights available to individuals.In her welcome address the Principal, Dr. Maitreyi Ray Kanjilal, highlighted the importance of maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment within the institution. The Resource Person for the programme was Ms. Priya Mondal, Advocate, Alipore Court and Empanelled Advocate of DLSA. She discussed various legal provisions relating to sexual harassment and violence and explained the rights and remedies available to victims. She also informed the participants about the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), its role in providing free legal aid, and the assistance available to those requiring legal support. The session was informative and interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions and asking questions. The programme successfully enhanced awareness and encouraged the participants to contribute towards building a safer and more gender-sensitive society.

Students from Victoria Institution (College) participated in the Youth Parliament Competition 2026-2027 organised by the Department of Parliamentary Affairs and Higher Education, Government of West Bengal on 23rd & 24th September 2026. The competions were hosted by Bethune College, Kolkata.

Prof. Narendranath Bhattacharyya Memorial Lecture:

An Extension Lecture, organised by the Department of History (Day & Morning) as part of the Prof. Narendranath Bhattacharyya Memorial Lecture, was held on 16 September 2026 at Suniti Sabhaghar. The invited speaker was Prof. Amit Dey, eminent historian and Head of the Department of History, University of Calcutta. Prof. Dey was felicitated by the IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Sudip Sinha, at the beginning of the programme. Prof. Dey delivered an engaging and informative lecture on “Aspects of Sufi Mysticism in India.” His deliberation offered valuable insights into the historical development of Sufi traditions in India and their religious, social and cultural dimensions.
Students of the Department of History (Day and Morning sections) and the Department of Political Science attended the programme. Faculty members from various departments of the college also joined the lecture. The programme provided the students with an enriching academic experience and an opportunity to engage with the ideas and perspectives of a distinguished historian. ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION ORGANISED BY DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH IN COLLABORATION WITH HEARTFULNESS EDUCATION TRUST AND IQAC OF VICTORIA INSTITUTION (COLLEGE):

An Essay Writing Competition was organised by the Department of English, Victoria Institution (College) in collaboration with the IQAC and Heartfulness Education Trust on 16.09.2026 at the English Seminar Room. Ample number of students from all departments participated in the event with great eagerness. The competition was meant to arouse cognitive and intuitive skills of the students and socio-environmental awareness. The competition is an All India Competition under the Capacity Building Program of Heartfulness Education Trust. The Department of English is extremely thankful to Principal Madam Dr. Maitreyi Ray Kanjilal for her unstinted support and involvement and also for encouragement from the IQAC. The Victoria Institution College Photography Club (ViCPC), in collaboration with the IQAC of Victoria Institution (College), successfully concluded its 3rd Add-on Course on Photography on a joyous note.

The ceremony began with a soulful rendition of Vande Mataram by the Cultural Committee and students, followed by the formal inauguration graced by Principal Dr. Maitreyi Ray Kanjilal, IQAC Coordinator Dr. Sudip Kumar Sinha, and Add-on Course Coordinator Ms. Suchhanda Ghosh.

Participants received their well-deserved completion certificates, while the club's seasonal T-shirt was officially unveiled. In a proud milestone, ViCPC also launched its very first photography magazine.

The event culminated in the inauguration of a Photography Exhibition featuring stunning works by students, mentors, and ViCPC members, before concluding with the National Anthem sung by all present.

Heartfelt thanks to Principal Dr. Maitreyi Ray Kanjilal, Dr. Sudip Kumar Sinha, and Ms. Suchhanda Ghosh for their invaluable guidance and support in making this journey memorable.
