NEET Eligibility Criteria
The National Eligibility cm Entrance Test (NEET) is a national-level medical entrance exam for admissions to undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), AYUSH, and other allied courses in India. The eligibility criteria for NEET UG 2025 are determined by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and are as follows:
Age Limit:
* The minimum age limit is 17 years as of December 31st of the year of admission (in this case, 2025). This means candidates must have been born on or before December 31, 2008.
* There is no upper age limit for appearing in NEET UG. The previous upper age limit of 25 years for general category candidates and 30 years for reserved category candidates has been removed.
Educational Qualification:
* Candidates must have passed or appeared in the Class 12th or equivalent examination from a recognized board in India.
* The core subjects in Class 12th must include Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English. Candidates must have passed these subjects individually.
* Candidates appearing for their Class 12th or equivalent examination in 2025 are also eligible to apply, provided they meet the other eligibility criteria.
Minimum Marks in Qualifying Examination (Class 12 or Equivalent):
* General Category: A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology.
* SC/ST/OBC Category: A minimum of 40% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology.
* Persons with Disability (PwD) Category:
* General-PwD: A minimum of 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology.
* SC/ST/OBC-PwD: A minimum of 40% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology.
* For candidates who have studied abroad and seek admission to medical colleges in India, they must have passed Class 12 with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.
Nationality:
* Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), and Foreign Nationals are eligible to appear for NEET UG.
Important Points:
* Mathematics marks are not considered for NEET eligibility.
* Candidates who have passed Class 12 and are appearing for an improvement examination are also eligible. They can mention the year of the exam with a better score in their application.
* The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and private candidates are also eligible to appear for NEET if they meet the other criteria.
* There is no limit on the number of attempts for NEET. Candidates can appear as many times as they meet the eligibility criteria.
It is crucial for all NEET aspirants to carefully check the official NEET UG 2025 information bulletin released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the most accurate and up-to-date details regarding eligibility criteria, as these are subject to change.
