You can have a conversation with the natives in French while keeping your unique accent. You don't have to sound like them to speak to them.

Do you actually believe your accent is the main reason native French speakers can't understand you? ⁣Have you ever considered that clear pronunciation might be more important than having a native French-like accent?

Guess what? The issue isn't that you have a foreign accent. The real challenge is pronunciation.Think of it this way: Accents reflect your unique linguistic background. ⁣They add diversity, richness and a dash of charm to communication.⁣ Be proud of it.

⁣It's entirely possible to have a foreign accent and still pronounce French words clearly and correctly.⁣ What really needs to happen is to be able to follow the phonetics of the language that helps you to be understood, regardless of your accent.⁣ This shift can change everything. You can embrace your accent as part of your identity, and speak clearly.

Think of 'La Vie en Rose'—both Edith Piaf’s and Zaz’s versions are stunning, yet uniquely their own. ⁣Everyone who knows the notes can sing the same song, but no one will sing it exactly like you. Your accent is your unique rendition of a song. Your accent just adds that personal touch to your French.

And that French 'R' - it doesn't really matter. If you get it....great. If you don't....you don't. It's that simple. You own unique 'R' will do.

I came across this write-up by a renowned French teacher, and I thought I must share it. Adapted to add some thoughts of mine too.
"The most frequently asked question, especially by the students who wish to take TEF Canada is "How long does it take to learn French?" And most of they want the answer in terms of months. We understand that their Canadian PR dreams depend on that, and we empathize with them. But the truth is, there is no precise answer to that question, simply because the time one takes to learn French depends on the factors stated below :
# Hours spent in the class room.
# Hours of self study.
# Learner's flair for languages.
# Previous knowledge of French.
# Motivation to learn.
# Interest in the language.
# Love for the language.
# EFFORTS.
As all these factors vary individually, how can there be a precise answer to the question - "How long does it take to learn French."
So to help new French learners, below is a reference table that roughly gives you the number of hours for each level separately, with the right guidance ofcourse.
A1 : 80 - 100 hrs
A2 : 100 - 120 hrs
B1 : 150 - 180 hrs
B2 : 200 - 250 hrs
C1 : 250 - 300 hrs
C2 : Highly variable hrs
And you need to add those extra hours of self study too.
+ FYI : Institutes/Teachers who claim to take you from zlich to B2 level French in 3/4/6 months, and promise to help you crack the TEF exam in as much time, without knowing anything about you- THEY ARE NOT HELPING YOU. THEY ARE ONLY HELPING THEMSELVES."
Think about it. Seriously!

One of our very wise lecturers at the University told us that, to truly speak French, 60% of the effort comes from us, the students, and only 40% comes from the teachers and the classroom.

That, to us, sounded like a lot of hard work. And it is. But it’s also the truth. And if you're studying French, you need to hear this too. Teachers don't just teach; they guide. Guidance is about showing you the right direction and handing you the map. But it’s up to you to make that difficult onward trek. Not to say that you have to do it on your own. You will have ample support from your teachers, but you also need to put in a lot of effort and time outside of the classroom.

Heard of people failing the DELF exams despite regularly attending classes? If you ask some of them, you'll find they relied too much on classroom lessons. Yes, you'll be taught well in class. But to really master French, you need to put in so much more effort on your own. If you don't live in a French-speaking community, relying solely on classroom learning won't be enough. Once you step outside the classroom, you’re back to the language your community speaks.

So, go beyond the classroom. Learn, practice, be curious and immerse yourself in the language you hope to master. Books, movies, podcasts, YouTube videos, news papers. Surround yourself with French content. There is so much of it out there on the internet. Choose what suits your niveau. Ask for help. Be dedicated. Love the language, and enjoy the learning process. That's the way. That's the only way. For you and for me.

---- Au+ pays masculin.
Ex: j'habite au Canada.

---- En+ pays féminin ou
pays masculin commençant par une voyelle.
Exs: j'habite en Italie.
J'habite en Iran.

---- Aux+ pays pluriel
Ex: j'habite aux États- Unis.

---- À + ville ou pour une île.
Exs: j'habite à Paris.
J'habite à Cuba.
