-Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two units each of 600 Mega Watt (MW) capacity in Shree Singaji Thermal Power Project in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. Shree Singaji Thermal Power Plant is a coal-fired project. It is owned and developed by Madhya Pradesh Power Generation Company Limited (MPPGCL).
-National Payments Corporation (NPCI) has successfully linked 15 crore Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) accounts with the Aadhaar numbers. With this achievement NPCI has moved a step closer to map its target of linking all 17 crore DBT accounts with Aadhaar numbers by 30 June 2015. Under the linking programme of DBT accounts with Aadhaar numbers, Government is seeking to bring all beneficiaries of all government subsidies/benefit transfers under the programme in order to plug leakages and save cost. Apart from this linking programme NPCI is also nodal agency for all retail payment systems under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) which was launched in 2014 to push DBT and financial inclusion.
-Walmart India has appointed Ashwin Mittal as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He will replace incumbent CFO Jill Anderson as he will be soon repatriated back to Walmart in US.
-NASA’s Dawn space probe has completed its orbit around dwarf planet Ceres which is the largest object in the Solar System between Mars and Jupiter. With the completion of orbit, Dawn probe has become first spacecraft to visit dwarf planet. Dawn has taken 7.5 years to reach the orbit of Ceres. Scientists are hoping to glean information from the Ceres which can tell them about the Solar System’s beginnings after its formation four and a half billion ago. Earlier during its journey from 2011 to 2012, the spacecraft also had explored and surveyed the giant asteroid Vesta. It had delivered new insights and thousands of images from the asteroid.

-The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 4 March 2015 has cut down repo rate by 25 basis points to 7.5 percent from 7.75 percent, with immediate effect. However, RBI has kept the cash reserve ratio (CRR) unchanged at 4 percent. It is the second change in rates by 25 basis points since January 2015. With this change, RBI is signaling that it was convinced by the fiscal consolidation measures announced in the Budget.
- Union Government and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) have signed an agreement on Monetary Policy Framework in order to move towards the RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan’s view of inflation targeting. Presently, Union Government and RBI give inflation estimates and do not set targets. But as per this agreement government has set a target for RBI to bring down inflation below.
-State Bank of India (SBI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Army on the Defence Salary Package (DSP). Signed MoU is revised version of the first MoU which was signed on DSP between two parties in 2011 and was valid for a period of three years. The revised MoU meets the requirements of serving soldiers, pensioners and their families.

Latest News- 23rd Feb 2015:
- India’s second largest private power producer Tata Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Russia’s largest coal producer Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK).
As part of this initial agreement, both the companies will cooperate with each other to identify and target opportunities in the energy sector.
Both parties will tap the opportunities in the energy sector in Russia and other geographies to develop common mutual interest.
At present, Tata Power is generating about 8,621 MW of power of which 7,407 MW is from thermal power generation.
By signing this agreement, Tata Power is endeavoring to be a significant player in the international energy market as SUEK is reliable and world class player in the mining business.
- Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has amended National Sports Awards Schemes.
The amended schemes include Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award, Dhyan Chand Award and Dronacharya Awards.
These amendments were based upon several suggestions made by selection committee for Arjuna Awards headed by Kapil Dev.

-Eminent scientist Tapan Misra has been appointed the Chief of ISRO’s Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad Gujarat.
He will succeed A S Kiran Kumar, who was appointed as the Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in January 2015.
-Chief Minister (CM) of Bihar Jitan Ram Manjhi has resigned. His resignation was accepted by Governor of Bihar Keshri Nath Tripathi.
He had resigned from office, before the trust vote he was to face in Bihar Legislature after the Governor address to the joint session.
Jitan Ram Manjhi was 23rd CM of Bihar, elected in May 2014 by the Janata Dal (United) Party legislators.
He was appointed as CM following the resignation of then CM Nitish Kumar, who had resigned from the post taking the responsibility of his party’s (JDU) dismal performance in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

India successfully test-fired its nuclear capable Prithvi-II surface-to-surface missile from a test range at Chandipur in Odisha.
Test- It was conducted by the Strategic Force Command (SFC) and monitored by the scientists of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Missile was fired from a mobile launcher from launch complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) as part of a user trial by the army and met all mission objectives.
About Prithvi-II missile
Prithvi-II missile is the first missile indigenously developed by DRDO under India’s prestigious Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP). It was inducted into India’s SFC in 2003.
Features:
-Surface to surface ballistic missile.
-Variants: Prithvi-I for the Army; Prithvi-II for the Indian Air Force; and the Dhanush for the Navy.
-Single-stage, Liquid-propelled.
-Advanced inertial navigation, control and guidance system. It uses advanced inertial guidance system with manoeuvering trajectory.
-Payload capacity: 500-1,000 kg.
-Range: 350 km.

Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel Limited has partnered with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to provide health, education and youth-focussed content to its customers in 17 African countries.
In this regard, Bharti Airtel limited and UNICEF have signed partnership agreement.
Partnership between them aims to improve African population’s access to health and education-related information from various innovative projects supported by UNICEF.
This agreement will help UNICEF to tap into Airtel’s mobile services to spread its health, education and youth-focused content to Airtel customers across the 17 African countries.
Through Airtel’s improved connectivity, mobile applications and services developed by UNICEF, such as eduTrac, mTrac and U-report will be freely accessible to Africans in these 17 countries.
Thus, by improving connectivity, this partnership seeks to empower millions of African children and youth with information and opportunities to help them become agents of change in their societies.
